How do I keep exposure information displayed longer in Live View on a Canon 550D/T2i?

After updating firmware on a Canon 550D/T2i, the ISO/exposure display in Live View only stays visible for about 2 seconds after metering, so I have to keep half-pressing the shutter to bring it back. Is there a camera setting that controls how long the exposure information remains on screen?

As you can see from the manual at page 112 under the Live view function settings tab of the menu you can find the Metering timer option which does the following:
You can change how long the exposure setting is displayed (AE lock time).

Yes. On the Canon 550D/T2i, this is controlled by the Metering timer setting in the Live View function settings menu. That option changes how long the exposure information is displayed in Live View (the AE lock/display time) after you meter.
If the display is only staying on for about 2 seconds, the metering timer is likely set to a short duration. Increase that setting to keep the ISO/exposure information visible longer while you check different areas of the room.
So this is most likely a menu setting rather than a firmware fault.
