The most reliable approach is to connect the TV to your computer and calibrate it like any other display using a calibration device/profile. That will adjust the computer’s video output for that TV, but it only applies when viewing images from the computer—not from other HDMI devices, built-in apps, or a card reader.

If you don’t have calibration hardware, you can still improve the TV by adjusting its picture settings. The controls most relevant to photo viewing are:

• sharpness
• tint
• saturation/color
• black level/brightness
• white level/contrast

TVs are often tuned for punchy video, so brightness and contrast are commonly too aggressive for accurate photo display. Reduce artificial processing and tune the image in a separate picture mode/profile so you can revert if needed.

Keep in mind that TVs generally offer less precise control than a good photo monitor, so you may get closer to accurate color, but not perfect accuracy without proper calibration tools.
