How can I restore picture-in-picture manual focus assist on a Panasonic Lumix G3?

My Panasonic Lumix G3 used to show a picture-in-picture magnified focus area while I was focusing manually, but that overlay no longer appears. I want the small magnified focus box over the full scene, not full-frame magnification only. How do I turn this back on, and are there any settings or shooting modes that disable it?

By turning the thumb wheel to the left you will get the pic in pic feature back. Turning it to the right will magnify it again in full frame.

On the Lumix G3, manual focus assist can usually be restored a few ways:
- While in manual focus, turn the thumb wheel left to get the picture-in-picture view back. Turning it right switches to stronger/full-frame magnification.
- In the Custom menu, make sure MF Guide is set to On.
- Be aware that MF Assist is disabled in some situations, including:
- Digital Zoom
- movie recording
- sometimes with certain lenses
If it still does not appear, try activating MF assist directly using the camera controls/touch panel, and check whether you’re using a different lens than before.
