How can I get more even white borders when printing on an Epson R2880?

When I print with expansion turned off and add margins to create a white border, the border comes out slightly uneven. I know it may never be absolutely perfect, but is there a standard way to align things so the print is as square as possible? I’m using an Epson R2880 and would prefer something more reliable than just eyeballing and tweaking margins.

From what you've said, the margins are never consistent, which implies that the paper handling isn't working quite right -- whether that's due to a guide not being pushed flush against the paper, or a fault with the device is impossible to say with certainty without physical access to the printer.

Had it been a systematic error, then you can always measure (if it's always off by half a millimetre or so), and take this into account when setting the margins.

Uneven borders usually point to paper handling rather than a special print-head alignment issue. First, make sure the paper is loaded consistently and that the paper guide is pushed snugly and square against the sheet. If the paper isn’t feeding straight, the borders can vary from print to print.

If the offset is consistent every time, treat it as a systematic error: measure how far the border is off, then compensate by adjusting your margins accordingly. That approach is more reliable than guessing and should scale to larger prints as long as the error remains consistent.

If the amount of misalignment changes from print to print, that suggests the paper feed or guides may not be working properly, and the printer may need inspection or service.
