I’d like to help a 9-year-old girl get interested in photography. What approaches tend to work well for children that age? Are there good ways to make it fun and let her explore without forcing it?

Give her a camera?
That's all I had to do with mine. :)

A good way to spark interest is to make photography about subjects she already enjoys, rather than pushing the hobby itself. Let her photograph pets, favorite toys, friends, or self-portraits—kids often engage more when the subject is personally meaningful. Some children may even be more drawn to video first, then move into still photography later.
Giving her a camera and letting her experiment can be enough. Editing can also help: simple color changes, stickers, or playful composites can make the process feel creative and fun.
The main thing is not to force it. Encourage curiosity, show her fun examples, and let her try things in her own way. If she associates photography with play and self-expression, interest is more likely to grow naturally.
