How can I combine two nearly identical watch photos so both second-hand positions show clearly in Photoshop?

I have two photos of the same watch taken from the same viewpoint. The only meaningful difference is the position of the second hand, and I want the final image to show both second-hand positions clearly at full strength rather than by lowering opacity. Photoshop’s automatic stack/alignment options are not helping here. What is a simple way to combine the images so both hand positions appear strongly in one result?

The easiest way is probably to use "Darker" layer mode if hands are darker than the dial and "Brighter" if it's vice versa.
Given that the images are the same except the second-hand, of course.

Yes. If the two photos are already aligned except for the second hand, put them on separate layers and use a blend mode instead of reducing opacity.
A simple choice is:
- Darken if the watch hands are darker than the dial/background
- Lighten if the hands are brighter than the dial/background
That lets Photoshop keep the darker or lighter pixels from both layers, so both second-hand positions can appear clearly at full strength.
This works best when the images are otherwise identical and only the second hand changes position. If the rest of the watch or lighting also changes, the result may affect other areas too, and you may need a mask to limit the effect to the hand.
