Do you need a flash bar to use a Polaroid SX-70 Land Camera?

I found some expired SX-70 film and I'm considering buying a tested folding Polaroid SX-70 Land Camera to try it. Can the camera be used without a flash bar, or is a flash bar required to operate it? Also, are there any issues I should expect when using expired SX-70 film?

If you're shooting in daylight I don't think you'd need a flash bar assuming the film pack is still good. The developer 'pods' may be dried out by now and I would also be concerned about the embedded battery in the film pack being dead. BTW, an SX-70 film pack will only work in an SX-70 camera. The older folders used a different film format and technology.

A flash bar is not required just to operate an SX-70. In daylight, you can shoot without one.
The bigger concern is the expired film itself. SX-70 film packs contain the battery that powers the camera, so if the pack is very old the battery may be dead. Expired film can also fail because the chemical developer pods may have dried out, which can prevent proper image development.
Also make sure the film is actually SX-70 film: SX-70 packs only work in SX-70 cameras. Earlier folding Polaroid cameras used different film types and are not compatible.
