Do Olympus OM-D cameras have a built-in motion-activated shutter or video trigger?

I’m looking for a way to set up an Olympus OM-D camera so it starts taking photos or recording video automatically when movement is detected, such as an animal entering or leaving a burrow. I haven’t found a motion-trigger feature in the manual. Is this built into Olympus OM-D cameras, or would I need an external accessory to do it?

The camera does not have this ability. You will need a separate motion trigger, sometimes called lightning triggers. Many of the available triggers can also be triggered by loud sounds.
Some of the triggers currently available:
- Ubertronix Strike Finder line of triggers
- Pluto Trigger
- Vello FreeWave Stryker line of triggers
- MIOPS Smart Trigger
- Opteka LTX80-O Trigger
- MK Controls Lightning Bug

Olympus OM-D cameras do not have a built-in motion-activated shutter or video trigger for this kind of wildlife setup. If you want the camera to fire or start recording when something moves into the scene, you’ll need an external trigger accessory.
These are often sold as smart triggers or lightning/motion triggers, and some models can also react to sound. Community answers mentioned options such as the Pluto Trigger, MIOPS Smart Trigger, Ubertronix Strike Finder, Vello FreeWave Stryker, Opteka LTX80-O, and MK Controls Lightning Bug.
Before buying, make sure the trigger is compatible with your specific Olympus OM-D model and supports the function you want: still shutter release, video start/stop, or both.
