Diana F+ 35mm back won’t engage the winder knob—defect or installation issue?

I have a new Diana F+ with the 35mm back. When I install the back, the cross-shaped part on the take-up spool doesn’t reliably engage with the paddle under the winder knob. Instead, it gets pushed down and seems to press the film release outward. I don’t want to force the plastic parts. Is this a known issue, and could it indicate an incompatible or defective back/body combination?

The answer is that Lomo has a manufacturing glitch and shipped some incompatible back/body combinations.

I spoke to their support line, and they explained that there was a manufacturing error with some units such that the back and the camera aren't compatible. They've send me an RMA to replace one or the other (I'm momentarily a bit confused about which), and I trust that this will resolve the problem.

Yes—based on the community reports, this is a known manufacturing issue with some Diana F+ body and 35mm back combinations rather than normal user error. Some units were apparently shipped with parts that don’t properly mate, so the take-up spool and winder knob won’t engage as they should. If the pieces won’t align without force, don’t force them; that could damage the plastic mechanism. The practical fix reported by owners is to contact Lomography support for a replacement, RMA, or repair kit so the incompatible body or back can be swapped out.
