I’m comparing the Canon EF-S 18-200mm IS and the Sigma 18-200mm DC OS HSM as all-in-one zooms. In real-world use, which lens performs better for sharpness and control of chromatic aberration? I’ve read online reviews, but I’d like practical user impressions.

From this comparison I would say that the Canon is a better choice when considering CA and Sharpness. If you need practical advice - they both will do similarly and just fine for the uses for which they are designed. The Canon costs more, and for good reason. It does have higher grade optics.

Based on the community feedback, the Canon EF-S 18-200mm IS is the better choice if sharpness and lower chromatic aberration are your priorities. The Canon is described as having higher-grade optics, which likely explains both the better image quality and the higher price.

That said, the practical difference may not be huge for the kind of general-purpose shooting these superzoom lenses are designed for. Both should perform similarly enough for everyday travel and convenience use, where zoom range matters more than maximum optical quality.

So the short version:

  • Best image quality of the two: Canon
  • Better value/convenience choice if expectations are modest: either will do fine
  • If CA and sharpness matter most: choose the Canon
