Can you copy settings between multiple Canon DSLR bodies, such as several 5D Mark III cameras?

I use multiple Canon bodies for wedding work and want them configured as consistently as possible. Is there a way to save the settings from one camera and load them onto another using an SD card, USB, or computer software, so I don’t have to manually match every menu option? I’m especially interested in whether this works for Canon 5D Mark III bodies or only certain models.

Sure, there is:

  1. From the Custom menu, on the fourth page, select Save/Load settings on card.
  2. Select Save and wait for the operation to complete.
  3. Move the card to another camera and select Save/Load settings on card again.
  4. Select Load this time and choose the setting file, it will have a CSD extension.

Oh, just one small detail, make sure your camera is a Canon EOS 1D X.

In general, no—Canon does not provide a built-in way to clone settings between multiple 5D Mark III bodies via card, USB, or computer software.

One community answer notes that some Canon bodies support “Save/Load settings on card,” but that feature applies to specific models such as the EOS-1D X, not the 5D Mark III.

For multiple 5D Mark III cameras, the practical workaround is to configure each body manually and use the camera’s Custom shooting modes (C1, C2, C3) to store matching setups for common scenarios. For example, you could prepare one custom mode for ceremony, one for portraits, and one for reception, then set each camera the same way in advance.

If cameras are different models, syncing settings is even less realistic because menu structures and available options vary. Even with identical models, there is no standard Canon feature for quickly copying the entire setup between bodies.
