Can you change the lens on a Minolta Hi-Matic 9 or add a zoom lens?

I have a Minolta Hi-Matic 9 and want to know whether its built-in lens can be removed so I can use a zoom lens. If not, is there any practical way to adapt lenses from another manufacturer?

The Minolta Hi Matic 9 has a fixed 45mm lens. It is not possible to switch lenses.

Lens variety and interchangeability – Nope, you won’t get that either. But, if you are the person that had to save up and finally got your Leica and lens, you probably can’t afford another lens for awhile anyway.

No. The Minolta Hi-Matic 9 is a fixed-lens rangefinder, so its 45mm lens is not designed to be removed or swapped for a zoom.

Based on the community answers, the shutter is built into the lens assembly. That means even if you could physically remove the original lens, the camera would no longer have a working shutter system. In practical terms, you would not be able to expose film properly.

There is also a rangefinder/viewing issue: this camera does not look through the taking lens like an SLR, so fitting a zoom from another system would not give proper framing or focusing the way it would on an interchangeable-lens camera.

So there are no realistic manufacturer options for adding a zoom lens to a Hi-Matic 9. If you want zoom capability, you would need a different camera designed for interchangeable lenses or a camera with a built-in zoom lens.
