Can Photoshop Elements 10 save transparent clipart in JPEG XR, or should I use PNG instead?

I cut a butterfly out from its background in Photoshop Elements 10 and want to share it as free clipart while keeping transparency. I'm wondering whether there is a JPEG XR plugin for PSE10 that supports transparency, and whether using JPEG XR would involve any royalty concerns when distributing copies. If JPEG XR isn't practical in Elements, what's the better format to use for transparent clipart?

I am not sure about a JPEG XR Plugin for PSE, however, I would use PNG for my file.

You could download GIMP and then use the GIMP JPEG XR Plugin to do what you are looking for.

Hope this helps.

For this use, PNG is the better choice. It widely supports transparency and is a standard format for sharing cut-out artwork or clipart.

Based on the community replies, there isn’t a clear, reliable JPEG XR plugin option for Photoshop Elements 10. One suggested workaround is to use GIMP with a JPEG XR plugin, but if your goal is simply to distribute transparent clipart, PNG is the simplest and most compatible solution.

So rather than chasing a JPEG XR workflow in PSE10, save the butterfly as a PNG with transparency.
