Can Lightroom remove a long thin object without using multiple circular spot-removal clones?

I’m editing a photo in Lightroom and need to clone out a long, thin line. The Spot Removal tool works at 100% opacity, but it only seems to create circular clone/heal areas. Is there any way in Lightroom to remove a non-circular shape like a line without placing lots of small circular spots, or do I need to use another program?

No, what you're describing is not currently possible with the feature set in Adobe Lightroom 3. The only cloning-type tool is the spot removal tool, which as you note, is a round shape. One can change the size of the tool but it's always a circle.
While Lightroom can (and does) handle a bulk of many photographers' editing functions, cloning is one of the the reasons why I'll pull an image into Photoshop.

In Lightroom 3, no. The Spot Removal tool only works with circular areas; you can change the size, but not the shape.
So for a long thin line, Lightroom doesn’t offer a non-circular clone tool, and removing it there would require many small spots. This is one of the cases where photographers typically switch to Photoshop or another editor with more advanced cloning tools.
