I'm using a Canon EOS 77D in Aperture Priority (Av) mode and want to control ISO and shutter speed behavior. I can't find the screen/menu option some guides mention. Is it possible on the 77D to change ISO manually in Av mode, and can I set a minimum shutter speed when using Auto ISO?

When in the "Creative Zone" exposure modes (P, Tv, Av, M), you can select the ISO speed setting using the "ISO" button on top of the camera or by going to 'Menu → Shooting (red) Tab 2 → ISO Speed'.

When in the "Creative Zone" exposure modes (P, Tv, Av, M), you can select the maximum ISO speed limit by going to 'Menu → Shooting (red tab) 2 → ISO Auto', pressing the "Set" button, scrolling to the desired maximum ISO value between 400-25600, and pressing the "Set" button again.

The EOS 77D has no option to select a minimum shutter speed when shooting in the Aperture Priority (Av) exposure mode, nor does it have an option to select the range of ISO speed settings that will be available when using the ISO button or 'Menu → Shooting (red tab) 2 → ISO Speed' option to set the ISO speed. Higher Canon EOS models offer these features.

On the Canon EOS 77D, you can change ISO in Av mode, but you cannot set a minimum shutter speed for Auto ISO in Av.

What you can do:

  • In the Creative Zone modes (P, Tv, Av, M), press the ISO button on the top plate to choose ISO manually.
  • Or go to Menu → Shooting (red) tab 2 → ISO speed.
  • If using Auto ISO, you can set the maximum ISO limit in Menu → Shooting (red) tab 2 → ISO Auto.

What you cannot do on the 77D:

  • There is no menu option to set a minimum shutter speed while shooting in Aperture Priority (Av) mode.
  • There is also no option to define a custom ISO range beyond the available ISO/Auto ISO settings.

So if you need direct shutter speed control, switch to Tv or M mode. In Av mode, the camera chooses shutter speed based on the aperture and ISO settings.
