Can I combine two 1L C-41 kits to make 2L of chemistry?

I normally buy a 2L C-41 kit, but only 1L kits are available right now. My processing tank needs about 2L of working solution. Is it safe to mix two 1L kits together to make a 2L batch, and if so, is there anything important to watch out for during mixing?

Yes, you can safely combine two 1L kits (from the same manufacturer, please!) into a single 2L quantity. Just use twice the starting water, mix the ingredients in order as instructed, and top up to 2L instead of 1L when everything is in for each solution.

Be sure to mix both bottles or bags of each component (Part A, Part B, etc.) before going on to the next component -- mixing out of order may lead to solubility issues due to things like pH being wrong for something to dissolve.

Yes — you can make 2L by combining two 1L C-41 kits, as long as they are from the same manufacturer and intended to be mixed the same way.

Use roughly twice the initial water amount, then add the chemistry components in the exact order given by the instructions. For each solution, fully mix both Part A portions before moving to Part B, then fully mix both Part B portions before moving on, and so forth. After all components are dissolved, top up to a final volume of 2L.

The key caution is not to mix components out of order. The prescribed sequence helps maintain the right pH and solubility, and changing it can cause ingredients not to dissolve properly.

So in short: same brand, same kit type, correct order, and fill to 2L at the end.
