What camera features or accessories can help someone with arthritis who finds a Canon 350D difficult to hold and operate? Lighter cameras and larger controls may help, but I’m also looking for practical workarounds that reduce hand strain, such as carrying supports or remote shutter options.

A thought would be a shoulder harness possibly coupled with a cable release. I'm not entirely sure where to get the harness, but something like that would make it much easier to handle the camera by taking the weight off the hands.

A practical workaround is to reduce how much weight the hands need to support and how much finger force is needed to press the shutter.
Based on the suggestions here, a shoulder harness can help by taking the camera’s weight off the hands and spreading it across the body, making the camera easier to carry and position. Pairing that with a cable release or remote shutter can also help, since it reduces the need to press small buttons or grip the camera tightly at the moment of exposure.
If replacing the camera is an option, a lighter camera with larger, easier-to-use controls may also be worth considering. In general, look for simple ergonomics, low weight, and controls that don’t require much dexterity.
So the most useful starting points are:
- a shoulder harness or supportive strap system
- a cable release or remote shutter
- if needed, a lighter camera with larger controls
