Are there stock photo sites with less strict quality standards than Bigstockphoto?

I recently signed up for Bigstockphoto to see whether I could sell some of my pictures, but many of them were rejected for not meeting the site's quality requirements. Are there stock photo services that are less strict, or is this typical across the stock photo market? If my images are being rejected, is it better to look elsewhere or focus on improving image quality first?

This probably isn't what you want to hear, but you might want to try and improve your quality before trying to sell your images.
The market for stock photos is pretty saturated, so unless your quality is good enough to pass through the policies, you will probably not be selling enough for it to be worthwhile.
That being said, there are quite a few other stock photo sites out there, or you can post them to flickr and turn on the "Request to License" feature, which offers them via Getty Images.

Most stock photo sites set a quality threshold, and that’s normal. The stock market is very crowded, so agencies generally reject images that don’t meet their technical and commercial standards. If your photos aren’t passing review, the more useful takeaway is probably to improve image quality rather than look for a site with no standards.
That said, there are other places to try. One answer mentioned Flickr’s “Request to License” feature, which offers licensing through Getty Images. Another mentioned Clustershot as having no quality standards.
Still, lower standards don’t necessarily mean better sales. If your work doesn’t meet common stock requirements, it may struggle to sell in a saturated market anyway. In practice, improving sharpness, exposure, noise control, composition, and overall technical quality is likely the better long-term path.
