Are there good online photography classes or beginner learning sites?

I’m new to photography and recently got an entry-level DSLR (Nikon D3000 with the 18-55mm and 55-200mm lenses). I understand the basics, but I’d like structured online resources to learn exposure, lighting, composition, and general camera technique. I can’t easily attend local classes, so I’m looking for online classes, tutorials, or beginner-friendly sites with useful exercises.

There are many great sites on the net that can help you get started. I am not sure about official "classes", however the following sites should be useful:

Yes—this is a good way to learn, and several well-regarded online resources were recommended.

For beginner-friendly tutorials, Digital Photography School and Cambridge in Colour were both suggested. They cover core topics like camera settings, exposure, composition, lighting, technique, and post-processing. Cambridge in Colour was specifically noted for clear technical explanations and practical scenario-based tutorials.

If you want a more class-like format, CreativeLive was recommended for high-quality photography courses. Some content may be free, while archived or downloadable classes may require payment.

For additional reading and articles, Photo.net was also mentioned as a large resource with material for both beginners and more advanced learners.

A good approach is to combine a structured course with tutorial sites: use a class platform for guided learning, then reinforce what you learn with articles and exercises on tutorial sites.
