The Sony FS-700R Digital Camcorder, along with the 18–200mm PZ F/3.5–6.3 zoom lens and the Sony ECM-XM1 microphone, makes for the right gadget to shoot professional-level movies. The camcorder has a 4K Exmor Super 35 CMOS image sensor that can shoot 4K and HD videos with 8,900K and 8,300K pixels, respectively. It has slow and quick motion-recording functions in which it shoots videos at 960 fps and 240 fps. The shutter speed can be adjusted from 1/60th to 1/2000th of a second in auto mode and up to 1/2400th of a second when shooting in 24p. This camcorder also includes the Dolby Digital Stereo audio recording, timecode, remote input, USB 2.0 interface, and a cold shoe.

Optics and Focus

This Sony camcorder comes fitted with an 18–200mm PZ F/3.5–6.3 zoom lens. The lens is made with 17 elements arranged in 12 groups and can be used with other APS-C sensor cameras having a Sony E-mount. The lens provides a field view of 76°–8° and a 0.35× magnification. With the seven-blade diaphragm, the lens lends a rounded bokeh in the out-of-focus background of images. It has an autofocus system that can function even at a close distance of 30 cm. For those who shoot handheld, the lens incorporates an image stabilizer to compensate for camera shakes. The extensive ISO range of 320 to 64,000 helps in capturing well-illuminated images even in dim lighting. An ND filter switching mechanism is integrated into the camcorder, which offers exposure reduction of 2, 4, and 6 stops.
