The Leica D-Lux Typ 109 is a point-and-shoot camera designed for providing high-resolution 16.8 MP photographs and 4K videos. It houses a DC Vario-Summilux f/1.7–2.8 lens. The camera fits a 4/3-inch CMOS sensor that offers an ISO sensitivity range of 100 to 25600. The mechanical and electronic shutters offer maximum shutter speeds of 1/4000th and 1/16000th of a second, respectively. The camera has a 2764K-dot electronic viewfinder and a 3-inch rear LCD screen. You can mount an external flash with the help of the hot shoe at the top. NFC-enabled Wi-Fi connectivity allows you to transfer captured images to smartphones. You can also use your smartphone screen for viewing live footage from the camera via the Leica Image Shuttle app.
Optics and Focus
The camera incorporates DC Vario-Summilux f/1.7–2.8 lens with 3.1× optical zoom. It provides an angle of view equivalent to a 24–75mm lens. This lens is optically stabilized to reduce blur caused by abrupt hand movement. The camera's ISO sensitivity reaches 12500, which is ideal for low-light photography. You can choose the mechanical shutter offering a maximum speed of 1/4000th of a second when capturing images of fast-moving objects. It prevents the rolling shutter effect to maintain clarity. The lens can focus down to a minimum distance of 3cm, 30cm, and 50cm in wide, telephoto, and standard settings, respectively. You can choose between any of the following aperture modes to obtain the desired effect: Aperture Priority, Shutter Priority, Program, or Manual.
Sensor and Screen
The camera design integrates a 12.8 MP CMOS sensor that offers vivid colors and accurately captures contrast. With the electronic viewfinder, you get a 2764K-dot resolution view of the scene you set your eyes on. The 3-inch rear LCD screen delivers images in 921K-dot resolution. Both the viewfinder and LCD screen cover 100% of the frame area.
Image and Video
This Leica point-and-shoot camera can take 16.8 MP pictures in RAW and JPEG formats. The movie mode records videos in 4K quality at 24 fps and Full HD 1080p videos at 30 fps. Freeze a particular moment with the continuous shooting mode at 40 fps. The camera includes up to 28 shooting modes, with each of them giving a unique look to your photos and videos.
Other Features
The camera has a hot shoe contact for attaching an external flash device. You can set the mounted flash to one of the following 6 modes: Auto, Auto/Red-eye Reduction, Forced On, Forced On/Red-eye Reduction, Off, Slow Sync, and Slow Sync/Red-eye Reduction. The flash is effective up to range of 8.5m on a wide lens and 5.2m on a telephoto lens setting. You can transfer captured images to your smartphone over NFC-enabled Wi-Fi. Alternatively, you can operate the camera remotely from your smartphone via the Leica Image Shuttle app. The camera has an integrated stereo microphone to record sound in the video mode. Other connectivity options include USB multi-port, AV output, and HDMI C. The camera runs on a 1025 mAh rechargeable Li-ion battery pack.
