Overview

The Sony FDR-AX53 4K Ultra HD Handycam is a compact, palm-sized camcorder that combines a high-sensitivity image sensor and a Zeiss 20x optical zoom lens for producing crisp, high-quality UHD 4K videos. The newly developed Exmor R CMOS sensor comes with pixels that are about 1.6 times larger than the older models. This is essential for offering offers enhanced sensitivity to capture high-quality images with minimum noise under both dark and bright shooting conditions. The 250x digital zoom is useful for bringing distant objects closer to your line of sight. The Fast Intelligent AF achieves a fast and accurate contrast-detection autofocus. It does so by reducing the lens motion, accelerating lens drive, and predicting the AF range, hence, improving the overall response for capturing more fleeting moments.

Optics and Focus

The FDR-AX53 camcorder from Sony is equipped with a Carl Zeiss Vario-Sonnar T* lens that has an aperture ranging from f/2 to f/3.8 and a 35 mm-equivalent focal length of 26.8 mm. The Fast Intelligent AF achieves a fast and accurate contrast-detection autofocus. It does so by reducing the lens motion, accelerating lens drive, and predicting the AF range, hence, improving the overall response for capturing more fleeting moments. The 250x digital zoom is useful for bringing distant objects closer to your line of sight.

Sensor and Screen

The Sony FDR-AX53 features a newly developed Exmor R CMOS sensor comes with pixels that are about 1.6 times larger than the older models. This is essential for offering offers enhanced sensitivity to capture high-quality images with minimum noise under both dark and bright shooting conditions. The 3-inch Xtra Fine LCD touchscreen has a 921,600-pixel resolution for viewing your captured content with a great deal of clarity. The screen offers an opening angle of 90° and a turning angle of 270°. The 0.24-inch OLED Tru-Finder EVF features a resolution of 1555 K dots for reproducing rich color and deep blacks.

Image and Video

The Sony FDR-AX53 camcorder is capable of capturing 4K UHD videos at its highest resolution of 3840 x 2160 pixels at 30 fps in the XAVC S format. It can also capture breathtaking still pictures at a maximum resolution of 5440 x 3056 pixels at a 16:9 aspect ratio in the JPEG format. Use the Balanced Optical SteadyShot Image Stabilization function for suppressing camera shake in order to stabilize footage when it is being shot and works throughout the entire zoom range. The Dual Video Recording function is useful for recording two movies at a time for instant sharing and creating a professional-grade file to edit further.

Other Features

The FDR-AX53 camcorder is capable of recording 5.1 channel quality audio whenever you are performing video capture in the AVCHD format. It captures the atmosphere of the scene accurately so that you can enjoy a flawless surround sound playback on your home theater system. The inbuilt WiFi and NFC facilities come in handy for executing one-touch file sharing and remote control. A 1960 mAh rechargeable Lithium-Ion battery pack powers the camcorder.
