Overview

The Panasonic Lumix DC-GX850 Micro 4/3 Mirrorless Camera with 12-32 mm Silver is a compact and powerful gadget that every casual photographer would love to have. It features a 16 MP Live MOS sensor, which lets you shoot crystal-clear 4K UHD videos and high-resolution photos. The 49-point Depth-from-Defocus AF technology determines the distance between you and your subjects, and automatically tweaks the focusing position as per your requirements. Shoot 8 MP stills in a continuous manner at a 30-fps burst rate. The built-in WiFi facility helps in transferring your captured videos and stills from the camera to a WiFi-enabled smartphone or tablet.

Optics and Focus

The Lumix DC-GX850 from Panasonic comes with a Lumix G Vario 12-32 mm f/3.5-5.6 ASPH lens, which incorporates one extra-low-dispersion element and three aspherical elements into its design. They help in reducing both spherical and chromatic aberrations for taking photos with better sharpness and clarity. The 49-point Depth-from-Defocus AF technology is useful for calculating the distance up to your subjects instantaneously, and adjusting the position of the focus automatically. In addition to the white-balance and exposure modes, the metering methods are helpful for a wide range of shooting conditions. The extended ISO ranges between 100 and 25,600, and the shutter operates at a maximum speed of 1/16,000th of a second. Featured in this camera are three shutter modes, viz. buddy shutter, touch shutter, and auto face shutter.

Sensor and Screen

The Panasonic Lumix DC-GX850 is equipped with a 16 MP Live MOS sensor, which enables it to capture high-resolution pictures and stunning 4K UHD videos. The dust-reduction system vibrates the sensor for cleaning out dust every time the camera is switched off or on. The 3-inch, 180° tiltable, rear LCD touchscreen provides a resolution of up to 1,040,000 dots and a screen coverage of 100% for browsing menus and viewing your captured footage and stills.

Image and Video

The Lumix DC-GX850 can shoot RAW, MPO, and JPEG photos at its highest resolution of 4592x3448 pixels, in addition to 4K UHD videos at a 3840x2160-pixel resolution in the MP4 format at 30 fps. Present in this camera are three 4K photo modes: 4K Pre-Burst, 4K Burst, and 4K Burst (S/S). The 4K Pre-Burst mode is useful for scenarios where you are not sure about when a specific moment is going to happen. The standard 4K Burst mode lets you capture 8 MP pictures continuously at a burst rate of up to 30 fps. The 4K Burst (S/S) mode enables you to mark a specific frame from a recorded video that is being played back, and save it as a single 8 MP photo.

Other Features

The WiFi facility in the camera makes it possible to transfer your captured content to any WiFi-enabled tablet or smartphone. The time-lapse and stop-motion animation modes are useful for offering creative imaging techniques for an assortment of shooting scenarios. The Creative Control and Photo Style modes allow you to express your creativity on your pictures in many ways. The built-in flash, which has a 13-ft guide number at ISO 100, highlights your subjects with impressive brightness, even in low-light conditions. This camera is powered by a 680 mAh rechargeable Lithium-Ion battery pack.

Most lenses have between four and eleven elements to bend the light rays to ensure a perfectly formed image appears on the light sensitive surface, such as a film or CCD. The elements are arranged in groups and may be seen in specification sheets as, for example, 6 elements in 4 groups. That configuration may have two single elements and the other four grouped in pairs.
