Overview
The Panasonic LUMIX S1 is the newest full frame mirrorless camera with a 35mm full-frame CMOS sensor and fast DFD autofocus system to offer fast performance during both image and video capture. Compatible with L-mount lenses, the camera can shoot videos in 4K at an industry-standard frame rate of 60 fps. The camera also allows 6K burst shooting at 30 fps. The Hybrid Log Gamma makes it possible to obtain the desired look for the image. With the built-in image stabilizer, the camera minimizes unwanted shakes for smooth and blur-free imagery. The DFD technology ensures fast autofocus response for both video shooting and image capture. The 5760K-dot OLED live viewfinder and 3.2-inch triaxial tilting LCD make it easy to compose the scene in any lighting condition. Link your smartphone to the camera by using the Bluetooth 4.2 or Wi-Fi to transfer photos or control the LUMIX S1 wirelessly.
Optics and Focus
The LUMIX S1's mount is a result of the collaboration between Panasonic and Leica. It allows you to use various lenses in the LUMIX S series. The LUMIX S1 features the DFD autofocus technology that offers a fast response and accuracy when shooting stationary as well as moving subjects. You can use the autofocus function in low light up to -6EV with Low Light AF marks. The Face and Eye Detection keep the subjects always in focus by recognizing their eye pupil position. Additionally, the Advanced AI Technology holds moving subjects in focus even if they turn their backs towards the camera.
Sensor and Screen
The LUMIX S1 sports a 24.2 MP full-frame MOS sensor that has omitted the low pass filter to improve image sharpness. It also supports low light shooting by keeping the image noise down at a high ISO up to 51200. The sensor has an aspherical lens on top of it to increase light condensation. The sensor has given an AR coat that reduces ghosting and flares even when back-lit subjects are in the frame. With the 3.2-inch rear triaxial LCD, you can compose the image from different angles. The OLED live viewfinder gives a 5760k-dot resolution view of the shot. It has a maximum refresh rate of 120 fps that prevents lag when tracking fast-moving subjects.
Image and Video
This Panasonic S1 mirrorless camera provides a maximum resolution of 6000×4000 pixels to the captured images. Choose the standard JPEG format for instant sharing of photographs. The RAW format gives full control over the image look during post-processing. The sRGB and AdobeRGB color space make the captured image compatible with different presets available in professional photo editing tools. This Panasonic mirrorless camera can record 4K videos at 60 fps, allowing you to stretch the footage 2 times of its actual length for creating slow-motion effects. The LUMIX S1 also comes with the 6K and 4K burst photo capture modes that take quick snaps at 30 fps and 60 fps respectively. A new AWBw mode is introduced in the camera, which retains the reddish tint of skin tones when shooting in fluorescent light.
Other Features
You can send photos to smartphones or remote control the camera with the integrated Wi-Fi or Bluetooth 4.2 connectivity. This wireless feature also can be used for transmitting the camera settings to multiple LUMIX S1 cameras. The dual memory card slots let you extend the overall shooting time. Apart from the microphone jack, there is a 3.5mm headphone port for monitoring the audio recording. Plug the camera to your PC via the USB port for tethering. This mirrorless camera can capture up to 380 stills per charge of the included 3050 mAh Li-ion battery pack.
