The Olympus OM-D E-M10 Mark III Micro 4/3 Camera offers you a chance to test how adept you are at photography. Teamed up with the 14–42mm EZ lens, the new camera boasts the Dual Quad-Core TruePic VIII image processor, which is a step ahead of the one that features in the Mark II. The processor coordinates with the 16.1 MP Live MOS sensor to create photographs of amazing definition, quality, and brightness. The 5-axis image-stabilization system of the camera prevents unwanted movements and helps capture images without blurring. There are five shooting-assist modes to choose from, depending on the scene or subject. The Mark III can shoot 8.6 frames a second in the burst setting. It also features an inbuilt editing function that can be used to trim videos and create photos from the recorded 4K videos. This camera runs on a BLS-50 battery that can be charged fully to shoot up to 330 shots on one go.
Optics and Focus
The 14–42mm EZ lens with f/3.5–5.6 aperture comes along with the Olympus Mark III camera. However, any other micro four thirds lens can also be used with the camera. The included lens is constructed with eight elements in seven groups. Its minimum focus distance stands at 20 cm. The five-blade diaphragm produces a pleasing bokeh effect in the background of the images. In addition, there are 121 contrast-detection AF points in the camera that can be used as per the scene requirements. The face- and eye-priority AF also help in subject enhancement. The mechanical shutter of the camera can work at 1/4000th of a second and the silent electronic shutter, at 1/16000th of a second. The new camera also comes with a touch AF shutter function that allows you to capture a scene by just touching the specific area of focus on the 3-inch LCD screen.
Sensor and Screen
The 16.1 MP Live MOS sensor in the Olympus OM-D E-M10 Mark III camera helps capture videos and images with distinct brightness and clarity. The Super Sonic Wave Filter even helps with high-contrast pictures by keeping the sensor spotless. The OLED electronic viewfinder offers 1.23× magnification and 2.36-million-dot resolution. It provides 100% screen coverage too. The LCD screen of the camera can also be used for scene analysis, in addition to adjusting the camera settings and shooting from high and low angles. It can be tilted 85° upward and 45° downward.
Image and Video
The latest Mark III from Olympus boasts the TruePic VIII image processor that helps in producing pictures that score high on vividness and definition, regardless of the lighting condition. The camera also has various Advanced Photography functions: HDR, Silent, Live Composite, Panorama, Live Time, Keystone Compensation, AE Bracketing, and Focus Bracketing. You can choose from 15 art filters too for getting creative with your shots after you’ve captured them. This camera can record 4K videos at 30p and 1080p at 60p. You can also create impressive time-lapse movies in 4K at 5 fps, 1080p at 15 fps, and 720p at 30 fps.
Other Features
The Olympus OM-D E-M10 Mark III mirrorless camera has inbuilt WiFi that enables transferring of photos and videos to other devices. The USB and type-D micro HDMI ports of the camera let you connect it to a PC or an HD TV for direct viewing of the captured media on a bigger screen. Sync the camera with a smartphone for remote triggering and geotagging on the photos. Along with a built-in flash, the camera has a hot shoe for attaching an external flash. The included BLS-50 Li-ion battery enables the camera to shoot around 330 photos and videos for 140 minutes straight.
