Overview

The Canon EOS M50 Mirrorless Camera with Zoom Kit offers a versatile feature-set to suit both image and video applications. The camera separates itself from other mirrorless cameras with UHD 4K video recording, a 2.36m-Dot OLED electronic viewfinder and a Dual Pixel CMOS AF with Eye Detection AF. The camera utilizes a 24.1MP APS-C CMOS sensor and DIGIC 8 image processor along with improved Auto Lighting Optimizer to ensure high image quality with low noise, along with a native sensitivity range of ISO 100-25600. The ISO range can be extended to ISO 51200 for low-light conditions. The sensor and processor combination also enables UHD 4K video recording at 23.98 fps, along with Full HD 1080p60 and HD 720p120 for slow motion capture. The Combination IS 5-axis image stabilization also helps to capture steady, shake-free recording by minimizing the appearance of camera shake.

Optics and Focus

The camera comes with a versatile standard zoom EF-M 15-45mm f/3.5-6.3 IS STM lens and also included a telephoto zoom EF-M 55-200mm f/4.5-6.3 IS STM lens. Both these lenses offer a 24-72mm and an 88-320mm equivalent focal length range respectively. The Combination 5-Axis Image Stabilization works to minimize the appearance of camera shake by up to 3.5 stops for sharp handheld shooting. The STM stepping motor provides fast, smooth, and near-silent autofocus performance. The Dual Pixel CMOS AF further accentuates this by integrating two separate photodiodes within each pixel that offer a broad network of phase-detection. This enables you to focus faster and accurately, making it suited for shooting moving subjects.

Sensor and Screen

The EOS M50 complements the imaging attributes with a 2.36m-dot OLED electronic viewfinder and a 3-inch touchscreen LCD for better control of the camera. The screen's vari-angle design enables you to work from high and low working angles, and its touchscreen interface allows working with Touch and Drag AF for easier manipulation of the AF area. The Touch AF system also offers accurate focusing by merely touching elements within the scene on the touchscreen.

Image and Video

The Canon EOS M50 can record UHD 4K videos at 23.98 fps, along with Full HD 1920 x 1080p at 59.94 fps and HD 1280 x 720p at 120 fps for slow-motion videos. When shooting videos, a Movie Servo AF mode offers smooth and natural focusing when changing from different subjects or different distances within the scene, as well as the ability to specify tracking sensitivity, AF speed, and Face Tracking priority. The built-in 5-axis digital image stabilization in combination with the optical IS and lens-based image stabilization system helps minimize camera shakes facilitating recording while walking or moving.

Other Features

The built-in Wi-Fi along with the NFC allows you to wirelessly share both photos and videos to a linked mobile device. You can also use the Bluetooth to connect the camera to a smartphone or tablet to quickly share images or remote control capabilities. While working in low-light conditions, you can either use the built-in pop-up flash or attach an external flash to the hot shoe for greater control.
