The Leica M9 Rangefinder Digital Camera embodies a full-frame 35mm sensor to provide 18 MP still shots. It works with Leica M-mount lenses. The sensor offers accurate color rendition and shadow detail. Its oversized viewfinder allows precise and fast focus adjustment with all the lenses. The rear LCD provides 230K-dot resolution view of the scene. This Leica rangefinder camera employs the center-weighted average metering method and provides up to four exposure modes. You can fit an external flash to the camera's hot shoe. The camera ensures easy navigation through different functions. Fully utilize the camera's optical prowess with the free downloadable Adobe Photoshop Lightroom software.

Optics and Focus

The camera is compatible with Leica M-mount lenses. You can choose different exposure modes such as auto, aperture, or shutter priority to capture images with minimum effort. The camera lets you manually adjust camera ISO, shutter speed, and lens aperture to expose the scene as per your need. The Discreet Mode recocks the shutter when you let go the shutter release button for maintaining the quiet operation. Choose the Soft Release Mode to controls overall vibrations while taking long exposure shots. You can take pictures of fast-moving objects by increasing the shutter speed up to 1/4000th of a second.

Sensor and Screen

The Leica M9 clicks pictures by utilizing the full-frame 35mm CCD sensor. It takes advantage of the upgraded cover glass to clear infrared light contamination, thus eliminating the need for external UV or IR filters. Also, the microlens placement prevents corner fall-off. The optical viewfinder gives you a bright view of the scene as well as assists in the focusing work. You can also frame the subject with the 2.5-inch 230K-dot LCD.

Image and Video

This digital rangefinder camera from Leica produces still shots up to a resolution of 5270×3516 pixels in DNG an JPEG formats. You can set the white balance to automatic or manual. Additionally, there are seven color temperature presets included in the camera.

Other Features

The hot shoe contact accepts electronic flash units and synchronizes them with the shutter speed at 1/180th of a second. With the image field selector, you can line-up the scene as per need. Transfer images quickly to your PC with the USB 2.0 port. Delay the shutter release by 2 or 12 seconds with the self-timer. The automatic power-off function can be set to 2, 5, or 10 minutes. This camera can be mounted on to 1/4-inch threaded tripods. The die-cast magnesium alloy body with synthetic covering retains the look of classic rangefinder cameras. You have to insert a 1900 mAh Li-ion battery into the camera.
