    Skill Level:
    Everyone
    @ Unique Photo FAIRFIELD, NJ

One of the biggest challenges in wedding and portrait photography is to get subjects to feel relaxed in front of your camera. People are used to taking selfies with friends or in a mirror, but when a professional camera is pointed at them, they often freeze up or feel awkward. No matter how good the camera taking the picture is, or how well someone knows how to use it, an uncomfortable subject is always going to look uncomfortable.

Join wedding and portrait photographer Mike Zawadzki as he guides you through the basics of directing and coaching couples naturally. You'll learn posing tips, how to break the ice with anyone, and how to make quick connections that build a strong rapport with subjects.

During the live shoot with a *real* couple, Mike will show how he works with the couple to make them feel relaxed, and how he simultaneously analyzes his surroundings to make the most use of any location. Improvisation, both in people skills, and how to creativity use a space, are two of the most important traits of a talented wedding/portrait photographer. The skills learned in this course will help elevate your portrait photography to a new level, no matter what camera you have, or what kind of scenery you have to work with.

*The images Mike shoots during this class be be used in his following class (Improving Your Workflow with AI Software). Anyone who Is interested in Mike's full photography workflow is encouraged to take both classes, but attendance in both is not required.

After a very different, and less busy year in 2020, many wedding photographers have been swamped with work and eager couples in 2021. Following this year, 2022 is projected to be the busiest wedding season in the US since the 1980s. Having a lot of work and being busy is a great thing, right? Of course it is. However, it is very easy for any wedding photographer, regardless of experience or editing skill set, to become overwhelmed with a backlog of jobs that need to be delivered.

Join wedding and portrait photographer Mike Zawadzki as he demonstrates how he uses AfterShoot and ImagenAI to cull down and edit over 80 weddings and nearly as many engagement sessions. These two relatively new applications have enabled Mike to not only grow his business, but also gain back invaluable personal time to spend with friends and family.

    @ Unique Photo FAIRFIELD

When we are out and looking at a landscape or seascape, we typically let our eyes wander looking for elements that we find appealing. Though we can see vast scenes, our brain tends to ignore all but the most appealing - our eyes focus and we absorb the visual so we can remember the experience. Regretfully, our cameras and lenses are just tools and have no human brain like capability - we need to train our lenses on the scene, compose and focus using the best possible light so as to capture a compelling photograph. Easier said than done.

Creating a great landscape requires a lot more than just being at the place. Join Shiv Verma as he discusses a variety of topics to help you create exceptional landscape images, including pre-visualizing, storytelling, composition, color, focus stacking, HDR, and more.

  • CS: Dragging the Shutter with Bobbi Lane (Fujifilm)

    Class Code: UUUCS8300

    Skill Level:
    Everyone
    @ Unique Photo FAIRFIELD, NJ

Explore the various techniques of "dragging the shutter", or balancing the exposure of strobe and ambient light sources in one photo, and learn how to make your photos more dynamic and effective!

Bobbi Lane will explain how to determine the proper balance of exposure between the two light sources - flash and ambient - before delving into how to creatively play by shaking or spinning the camera, zooming the lens, panning, adding gels, and more. The flash will light the subject and freeze any motion, while moving the camera will blur the ambient light in the background in a variety of ways. This technique can be used for people at twilight, product shots, flowers outside, and much more.

Bring your cameras! Once the class ends, you're welcome to join Bobbi and her husband, Lee, in the loading dock for a demo and hands-on shoot to practice these techniques from 3:30pm - 5pm!

Joe McNally first allowed himself the title of professional photographer in 1978. Through many years of shooting, for newspapers, wire services, magazines, corporations and advertising agencies, he has seen cameras evolve from simple machines using film to turbocharged boxes of high powered technology, using millions of pixels and sophisticated algorithms.

In the midst of all this evolving tech, the path of the photographer remains the same. Tell good stories. Seek vibrant, emotionally compelling visual ways to engage and inform people about the world around all of us.

In this talk, McNally will take us from breaking news shot for a daily paper to year long stories shot for the National Geographic, as well as show the listeners what it’s like to create sophisticated visuals for marketing and advertising work on jobs with large crews, big budgets and tremendous pressure. He will trace this path showing work from the days of B&W Tri-X shot with the Nikon F to the recent assignment showcasing the astonishing capabilities of the Z 9.
