Overview

The Sony PXW-FS5 XDCAM Super 35 is an advanced camera system that is compact in size and incorporates professional features that differentiate it from consumer and DSLR cameras for shooting documentaries, reality TV, and other commercial content. It has standard ¼-inch screw holes that let you mount the video camera onto a wide range of gimbals, drones, or underwater housings. The inbuilt Super 35 Exmor sensor allows you to capture 100 Mbps 4K videos at a massive resolution of 3840 x 2160 pixels with the help of Sony's revolutionary XAVC (Long GOP) recording system. Furthermore, you can perform flawless 10x slow motion recording at a 240 fps frame rate for added flexibility.

Optics and Focus

The Sony PXW-FS5 XDCAM is compatible with a wide range of lenses that have outstanding apertures and focal lengths. This video camera has a brilliant shutter speed of 1/10,000th of a second and an ISO sensitivity rating of 3200. Use the Centre Scan mode for supporting older Super 16 mm cinema lenses. It selectively produces an output of 2160 x 1080 pixels from the sensor’s centre for giving the FS5 all the characteristics of a Super 16 mm film camera and avoids any unwanted vignetting. Lastly, the inbuilt electronic variable ND filter lets you capture high-quality videos in any environment without requiring any third party filters.

Sensor and Screen

The PXW-FS5 XDCAM camera system from Sony is equipped with a Super 35 Exmor sensor allows you to capture 100 Mbps 4K videos at a large 3840 x 2160-pixel resolution. This can be done with the help of Sony's sophisticated XAVC (Long GOP) recording system. The high-quality 0.39-inch OLED viewfinder is perfect for both left-eye and right-eye viewing and has a 1440k-dot resolution.

Image and Video

This camera can shoot 100 Mbps 4K videos at a resolution of 3840 x 2160 pixels in the MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 format with Sony’s XAVC (Long GOP) recording system. You can conduct flawless 10x slow motion recording at a 240 fps frame rate for added flexibility.

Other Features

The Sony PXW-FS5 XDCAM video camera also has standard ¼-inch screw holes for mounting the video camera onto a large variety of gimbals, drones, or underwater housings. The inbuilt WiFi and NFC connectivity options come in handy for controlling the video camera remotely via a smartphone or tablet. For additional storage space, this camera features two SD Media Card slots. The HDMI and HD/3G-SDI ports are useful for viewing captured content on a wide range of devices. A long-lasting BP-U30 battery pack powers this camera.

Minimum Illumination: 60i: 0.16 lx (iris f/1.4, gain auto, shutter speed 1/24) 50i: 0.18 lx (iris f/1.4, gain auto, shutter speed 1/25)
Minimum Illumination:
Minimum illumination indicates the minimum amount of light required to see a ‘useful’ image generated by a camera. It is measured with a light meter and the specification is expressed in lux. When comparing minimum illumination specifications, it is important to know the conditions under which measurements were made, because the specifications vary with parameters such as video levels, shutter speed, gain, and F-number.

ISO Speed: S-Log2/S-log3 Gamma ISO3200
ISO Speed:
The ISO speed setting dictates sensitivity to light. The higher the ISO speed, the more sensitive the film or digital sensor is to light. Higher ISOs have the effect of noise in an image. The actual ISO at which the noise occurs varies from camera to camera. Low ISOs are generally used for brighter lighting conditions and high ISOs are often used for low light or action shots.
