Overview

With its sleek design and outstanding performance, the Sony Alpha a7S II mirrorless digital camera is sure to catch your attention. It features a 12.2 MP full-frame sensor, which provides a wide dynamic range and an impressive picture quality even in low light. It is the world’s first camera that supports full-frame 4K movie recording. You can also record stunning Full HD videos at a massive resolution of 1920 x 1080p at a high frame rate for enabling 5x slow motion playback. The 5-axis in-body image stabilization works with all compatible lenses and helps in capturing blur-free images every time. Finally, the WiFi and NFC connectivity facilities allow you to link the camera to a tablet or a smartphone through the PlayMemories app for both Android and iOS-based devices.

Optics and Focus

The Sony Alpha a7S II camera is compatible with a wide range of lenses that have a brilliant aperture and focal length. The camera’s ISO is rated at a whopping 409,600. The 169-point autofocus comes in handy for focusing only on the subject to be captured. It works even in areas as dim as EV -4. The camera’s durable reduced-vibration shutter system features an all-new braking mechanism that cuts mechanical front and rear curtain vibration by approximately 50%. It has been tested to 500,000 cycles for extreme durability. In addition, the silent shutter mode eliminates shutter activation for capturing pictures discreetly.

Sensor and Screen

This camera features a 12.2 MP full-frame sensor, which provides a wide dynamic range and an impressive picture quality even in low light. The tiltable 3-inch Xtra Fine LCD screen comes with a resolution of 1229k dots, which offer a great deal of clarity for viewing videos and photos. The screen can swivel up and down at about 107° and 41° respectively. Use the trademark WhiteMagic technology for doubling the display’s brightness through a unique RGBW pixel structure for checking the focus and image details with immense ease. Finally, the 2.4-million dot XGA OLED Tru-Finder features a high-quality ZEISS T* coating for capturing pictures even in tough lighting conditions.

Image and Video

The Sony Alpha a7S II can shoot pictures at its highest resolution of 4240 x 2832p. Apart from shooting Full HD videos at a 1920 x 1080p resolution, the a7S II is also capable of shooting crystal-clear full-frame 4K videos, which is a first for any camera. The S-Gamut3, Cine/S-Log3, and the S-Gamut3/S-Log3 picture profiles come in handy for simplifying color correction and providing a dynamic range as wide as 1300%. The built-in 5-axis image stabilization function works with all compatible lenses and helps in capturing blur-free photos every time.

Other Features

Additionally, the Sony Alpha a7S II is also equipped with WiFi and NFC connectivity facilities. They enable you to link the camera to a tablet or a smartphone through the PlayMemories app for both Android and iOS-based devices. This camera even allows you to assign close to any of 64 different functions to any ten customizable buttons for an intuitive user experience. For better flexibility, this camera supports a large variety of XLR series microphone kits. Furthermore, this camera is also resistant to dust and moisture.

Control Specifications
ISO Speed: Still images: ISO 100-102400 (ISO numbers up from ISO 50 to ISO 409600 can be set as expanded ISO range.), AUTO (ISO 100-12800, selectable lower limit and upper limit), Movies: ISO 100-102400 equivalent (ISO numbers up to ISO 409600 can be set as expanded ISO range.), AUTO (ISO 100-12800, selectable lower limit and upper limit)
ISO Speed:
The ISO speed setting dictates sensitivity to light. The higher the ISO speed, the more sensitive the film or digital sensor is to light. Higher ISOs have the effect of noise in an image. The actual ISO at which the noise occurs varies from camera to camera. Low ISOs are generally used for brighter lighting conditions and high ISOs are often used for low light or action shots.
