The Sony a6500 is a mirrorless digital lens camera that offers flexibility with its interchangeable design. It is designed for Sony-E mount lenses. The camera is equipped with a 24.2 MP APS-C Exmor CMOS sensor and a BIONZ X image processor. The Sony a6500 provides UHD 4K video recording at 30 fps. Additionally, the camera can take burst images at 11 fps up to 233 frames. The 4D Focus system comes with 425 on-chip phase-detection points and 169 contrast-detection points. You can compose the shot or playback captured media with the 921.6K-dot LCD screen. The XGA Tru-Finder OLED EVF offers a 2.36m-dot resolution view of the scene. This camera has a built-in Wi-Fi with NFC that allows you transfer imagery to smartphones as well as control the Sony a6500 remotely.

Optics and Focus

The Sony a6500 mirrorless camera uses the 4D AF system that is a team of 425 phase-detection and 169 contrast-detection points. It offers a fast focus response in 0.05 seconds. Also, the High-density Tracking AF keeps the focus fixed on a moving subject whether shooting a video or taking a picture. The ISO limit of 100–25600 can be expanded up to 51200 to use the camera in low-light conditions. Both mechanical and electronic shutter is incorporated into the camera. You can capture clear shots of fast-moving objects without experiencing the rolling shutter effect thanks to the mechanical shutter. As for the electronic shutter, it eliminates noise when taking photos.

Sensor and Screen

The 24.2 MP APS-C Exmor CMOS sensor improves light-gathering abilities, reduces noise, and increases readout speeds. This Sony camera has a 3.0-inch LCD that has a tilt range of -45° to +90°. The XGA Tru-Finder EVF serves as an alternative to the LCD. It offers a 2.36m-dot resolution view of the scene and has a 120 fps mode to ensure smooth subject tracking. The EVF has an approximate 1.07× magnification and diopter adjustment of -4 to +3 m. You get 100% screen coverage with both EVF and LCD.

Image and Video

The camera records UHD 4K videos at 30 fps and offers a 120 fps frame rate for 1080p video recording. This mirrorless camera captures 24 MP pictures a maximum resolution of 6000×4000 dpi in JPEG or RAW format. The continuous shooting mode freezes an action in a series of burst photos at 11 fps. The support for S-Gamut3.Cine and S-Log-3 along with S-Gamut3 and S-Log3 profiles ensure 1300% wider dynamic range. The improved Zebra function can be used with S-Log gamma profiles to keep exposure values in check when shooting with high-contrast subjects in the frame.

Other Features

The built-in Wi-Fi allows you to send images and videos to your smartphone. Moreover, the NFC support offers remote camera triggering from your mobile. The built-in flash has a guide number of 19.69 feet at ISO 100. An external flash can be mounted to the hot shoe or connected wirelessly. The camera flashes, both built-in and external get automatically synchronized at 1/160th of a second. You can comfortably hold the camera with the ergonomic grip. The camera takes 350 shots with the viewfinder and 400 shots with LCD on a fully charged on a 1080 mAh NP-FW50 Li-ion battery.
