Durable yet lightweight, the Olympus OMD E-M1 Camera Body is a practical gadget for the dedicated outdoor photographer. It comes with a 16.3 MP Live MOS sensor that combines with the TruePic VII image processor to facilitate high resolution still imagery and full HD video recording with a notable low-light quality sensitivity of up to ISO 25,600. The 5-Axis image stabilization minimizes accidental camera shake by compensating for camera movements up to the equivalent of five shutter speed steps. The FAST Dual Phase and Contrast-Detection autofocus utilizes both on-sensor and contrast phase-detection methods to acquire focus quickly and accurately. Lastly, the built-in wireless connectivity gives you the freedom to link the camera with an Android or iOS-based tablet or smartphone by using the proprietary O.I. Share app.

Optics and Focus

The OMD E-M1 camera body from Olympus is compatible with most Micro Four Thirds lenses that deliver ample apertures and focal lengths. The shutter operates at a rapid speed of up to 1/8000 of a second whereas the ISO sensitivity ranges from 100 to 25,600. The FAST Dual Phase and Contrast-Detection autofocus utilizes both on-sensor and contrast phase-detection methods to acquire focus quickly and accurately. The three metering methods, along with the Exposure and White Balance modes, come in handy for a wide range of photography situations.

Sensor and Screen

The Olympus OMD E-M1 camera body comes with a 16.3 MP Live MOS sensor that facilitates high resolution still imagery and full HD video recording with a notable low-light quality sensitivity. The 3.0-inch 1037 k-dot tiltable LCD touchscreen offers immense clarity for viewing your subjects and browsing menus. Use the 2360 k-dot electronic viewfinder for capturing your subjects under the bright sunlight where it becomes complicated to use the touchscreen.

Image and Video

The Olympus OMD E-M1 shoots not only photos at its highest resolution of 4608 x 3456 pixels in the MPO, RAW, and JPEG formats, but also videos at a 1920 x 1080-pixel resolution at 30 fps in the AVI, MJPEG, MOV, and MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 formats. The 5-Axis image stabilization minimizes accidental camera shake by compensating for camera movements up to the equivalent of five shutter speed steps. The TruePic VII image processor can process images at a high rate of speed without compromising on quality. You can even shoot pictures at a burst rate of up to 10 fps.

Other Features

The built-in wireless connectivity in the OMD E-M1 gives you the freedom to link the camera with an Android or iOS-based tablet or smartphone by using the proprietary O.I. Share app. Powering this camera is a reliable 1220 mAh rechargeable Lithium-Ion battery pack that lasts for a respectable duration on a single charge. Finally, this camera is constructed from magnesium alloy, which not only makes it durable, but also makes it dustproof, splashproof, and freezeproof to ensure full functionality even in inclement conditions.

Control Specifications
ISO Speed: Auto, 100-25600
ISO Speed:
The ISO speed setting dictates sensitivity to light. The higher the ISO speed, the more sensitive the film or digital sensor is to light. Higher ISOs have the effect of noise in an image. The actual ISO at which the noise occurs varies from camera to camera. Low ISOs are generally used for brighter lighting conditions and high ISOs are often used for low light or action shots.
