Lightweight and intuitive to use, the Canon SL1 w/18-55mm IS STM Lens is a smart choice, especially for those beginning their photography journey. This camera is equipped with an 18-MP CMOS sensor that works in conjunction with the DIGIC 5 image processor to capture pictures with high resolution, brilliant performance, and low noise. The 18-55mm IS STM lens offers an aperture of f/3.5-5.6 and features a Stepping Motor to perform a smooth and quiet continuous autofocus. You can perform continuous shooting of 28 full-resolution JPEG or 7 consecutive RAW images at a burst rate of 4 fps. Use the video snapshot function for shooting short video clips of 2, 4, or 8 seconds, and for automatically combining them into a single video file.

Optics and Focus

The Canon SL1 comes with an 18-55mm IS STM lens, which provides an aperture of f/3.5-5.6 and has a Stepping Motor to perform continuous autofocus. The 9-point autofocus system delivers a fast and accurate performance while shooting with the viewfinder, whereas the Hybrid CMOS AF II is used while shooting videos and photos in the Live View mode. The ISO sensitivity ranges from 100 to 25,600 and the shutter speed is 1/4000th of a second. The numerous white balance and exposure modes, as well as the metering methods, come in handy for a variety of photography situations.

Sensor and Screen

This camera features an 18-MP CMOS sensor that allows you to take high-resolution pictures with low noise and outstanding performance. The 3-inch Live Preview rear LCD touchscreen comes with a resolution of 1,040,000 dots for browsing through menus and viewing captured content with immense clarity. The optical pentamirror viewfinder is useful under bright light, where it becomes difficult to use the screen.

Image and Video

This Canon camera is capable of capturing pictures at its highest resolution of 5184 x 3456 pixels in the JPEG and RAW formats. It can also record Full HD videos at a 1920 x 1080-pixel resolution at 30 fps in the MPEG-4 AVC/H.264, and MOV formats. The Video Snapshot function is useful for capturing 2-, 4-, and 8-second video clips and combining these into one video file. The Optical Image Stabilization system from Canon provides up to 4 stops of compensation for shooting blur-free videos and images.

Other Features

This camera has creative filters and special scene modes that let you unleash your creativity for a range of photography tasks. The inbuilt flash system makes it easy to take bright pictures, regardless of the lighting condition. Use the Photobook Setup feature for sharing your images in a book form. You can view your captured photos and videos directly on a television by linking it to the camera, with the help of the HDMI C port that comes along in the package. Finally, this camera is powered by an LP-E12 rechargeable Lithium-Ion battery pack.

The individual pieces of glass that form the overall optical construction. Most lenses have between four and eleven elements to bend the light rays to ensure a perfectly formed image appears on the light sensitive surface, such as a film or CCD. The elements are arranged in groups and may be seen in specification sheets as, for example, 6 elements in 4 groups. That configuration may have two single elements and the other four grouped in pairs.
