In addition, it is the first Tamron lens sporting a USD (Ultrasonic Silent Drive), Tamron's very own ultrasonic auto-focus drive mechanism. I bought this lens from UniquePhoto March 2012 after watching a review of it on youtube called "thatnikonguy" by Matt Granger. Since then I have been happy with it's performance since. I got it with a $100 rebate, this made the price $350.00. The Vibration Control (VC) works well, the ultra silent drive seems to be fast from infinity. It is quiet and the weight is reasonable. However I don't have any other 300 mm lens that have a built in AF motor with VR or IS to compare it to, so I don't know how it stacks up against other lens.
