Featuring a shoulder-mount form factor, the Sony HXR-MC2500 Shoulder Mount AVCHD Camcorder provides stability and professional feel to videographers. The camcorder features a 0.25-inch Exmor R CMOS sensor that offers excellent performance when the light is as little as 0.8 lux. Its low-light performance is further enhanced by a built-in LED light shining at 800 lumens. The HXR-MC2500 records full HD 1080p videos in AVCHD and SD videos in DV codec with an AVI wrapper. The DV codec delivers higher quality SD videos as it offers lower compression during encoding. The camcorder is Wi-Fi enabled, which allows you to control it from a smartphone or tablet.
Optics and Focus
The HXR-MC2500 camcorder from Sony features a 26.8mm wide-angle lens with a 12x zoom. The camcorder offers excellent performance in low-light environments as it needs 0.8 lux minimum illumination in manual mode with shutter speed at 1/15 of a second, f/1.8 aperture, and gain at 33dB. It also includes a built-in LED video light that shines at a brightness of 800 lumens when 1.6 feet away from the subject. The HXR-MC2500 features Optical SteadyShot Image Stabilization with Active Mode that provides compensation for the swaying motion, which usually occurs while walking. The camcorder’s Quick AF System is designed to improve autofocus accuracy even when shooting in low-light conditions. It has an Assignable Lens Ring that can change focus, exposure, white balance, aperture, and shutter speed. The lens ring gives direct access to the camera's optical settings without having to navigate the menu.
Sensor and Screen
The camcorder features a 0.25-inch Exmor R CMOS sensor that delivers up to 0.8 lux sensitivity when recording in SD mode. The sensor is completely redesigned to have its circuitry at the back to enable the placement of larger photosites and capture more light. The design also includes the use of backside illumination, which enhances the HXR-MC2500’s low-light performance further. The camera features a 3-inch LCD panel with a 0.92 million dot resolution. It also includes an OLED Tru-Finder viewfinder, which provides a better viewing angle, and also features a resolution of 1.44 million dots.
Image and Video
The HXR-MC2500 camcorder records full HD 1080p videos up to a frame rate of 60 fps. High-definition videos are recorded in AVCHD format, which is an extremely efficient data compression format. It significantly reduces memory requirements, which maximizes the benefits of file-based recording, to provide high image quality in a small file size. In SD mode, the camcorder records videos using the DV codec with an AVI wrapper. It uses less compression than the MPEG-2 codec and provides a higher image quality in SD videos.
The Sony HXR-MC2500 Shoulder Mount AVCHD Camcorder offers Wi-Fi and NFC connectivity so you can operate it from a smartphone or tablet. In addition to two cold shoe mounts, the camcorder also includes a proprietary Multi-Interface shoe mount that allows it to function with a broad range of accessories from Sony without the requirement of separate wiring. The Multi-Interface shoe mount is compatible with microphones, wireless receivers, and flash units. The camcorder features the L Series battery from Sony that provides a battery life of up to 14 hours.
