Megapixels:
A megapixel is one million pixels. It is commonly used to describe the resolution of digital cameras. For example, a 7.2 megapixel camera is capable of capturing roughly 7,200,000 pixels. The higher the megapixel number, the more detail the camera can capture. Therefore, the megapixel count is a significant specification to look for when buying a digital camera.

Overview

Take along the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX10 IV Digital Camera on your next adventure trip. This camera comes with a Zeiss Vario-Sonnar T* lens that has a focal length range of 8.8–220mm and a variable aperture of f/2.4–4.0. The 20.1 MP Exmor RS CMOS sensor and BIONZ X image-processing engine deliver high-quality images even in low-light environments. On the LCD screen, you can find 340 autofocus points, among which, 315 are meant for phase detection and 25 for contrast detection. You may turn on the continuous-shooting mode for up to 29 minutes to capture 249 still shots at the rate of 24 fps. The Cyber-shot DSC-RX10 IV has WiFi built in, which means you can transfer media to another compatible device or link your mobile phone to the camera as a viewfinder. An NP-FW50 rechargeable battery is provided with this camera.

Optics and focus

The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX10 IV comes with a Zeiss Vario-Sonnar T* lens that offers a focal length of 8.8–220mm. The lens is designed to produce sharp picture quality with vivid colors, thanks to its optical design that comprises 18 optical elements in 13 groups. Among these elements are eight extra low-dispersion elements and six Sony advanced aspherical elements, which retain sharpness and color fidelity throughout the zoom range. The camera offers 315-point phase-detection AF points for you to choose from. Also, with the 25 contrast-detecting AF points, the camera lets you keep your focus fixed on the subject, even when there is a change in brightness in the scene. The high-density tracking AF technology in this digital camera ensures stable tracking, with the focus fixed on the moving subject. This camera has an anti-distortion shutter that reduces the rolling-shutter effect, making it super smooth to capture ‘blink and you’ll miss’ moments with precision. You may switch to the electronic shutter for shooting in complete silence, so as not to disrupt the scene or subject at hand. A maximum ISO of 25600 facilitates photography in different light conditions.

Sensor and Screen

The 1-inch Exmor RS CMOS sensor on this Sony digital camera delivers 20.1 MP still shots with high color sensitivity. A 3-inch touchscreen LCD at the back helps in scene analysis on an impressive 1.44 million-dot-resolution display. The LCD can be tilted upward by 109° and downward by 41°. Alternatively, the camera has an XGA OLED Tru-Finder that offers 100% screen view in 2.35-million dot resolution. The diopter on the viewfinder eyepiece can be adjusted in the range of -4.0 to + 3.0m-1. Both the viewfinder and the LCD's brightness can be adjusted in 5 steps, although, the latter provides an additional Sunny Weather preset.

Image and video

The Sony DSC-RX10 IV can capture stills and record videos in 5472×3080 dpi with a 16:9 aspect ratio. It also supports 4K and full HD video recording at 30p and 60i, respectively. The camera can be used to record slow-motion videos at a frame rate of 1000 fps. Its Quality Priority mode makes it possible to record videos of up to four seconds, while the Shoot Time Priority mode enables video recording of up to seven seconds. Additionally, you may share the slow-motion footage by enabling the proxy recording that keeps the size of the video small for quick online sharing. The Optical SteadyShot stabilizes frames when shooting handheld. For convenient shoots during the night or in any dark area, the advanced BIONZ X image-processing engine comes in handy to keep the noise in the picture low and to aid continuous shooting.

Other Features

This Sony Cyber-shot camera has built-in WiFi that not only helps in sharing images to smartphones, but also lets you use your smartphone as a viewfinder for remote operation. Moreover, the Bluetooth function allows you to record the location data on the image or video. With a simple press of the built-in flash button, you can capture stills in places that have little to no light. Additionally, the camera can be teamed up with an external flash that can be mounted on the top accessory shoe. This digital camera supports simultaneous audio recording, as it comes with microphone and headphone jacks. Other features include a self-timer, USB terminal, an HDMI port, and two custom buttons. The camera can shoot up to 400 still shots on a single charge of its NP-FW50 rechargeable battery.

Minimum Illumination: Auto: 2.4lux (Shutter Speed 1/30")
Minimum Illumination:
Minimum illumination indicates the minimum amount of light required to see a ‘useful’ image generated by a camera. It is measured with a light meter and the specification is expressed in lux. When comparing minimum illumination specifications, it is important to know the conditions under which measurements were made, because the specifications vary with parameters such as video levels, shutter speed, gain, and F-number.
