Megapixels:
A megapixel is one million pixels. It is commonly used to describe the resolution of digital cameras. For example, a 7.2 megapixel camera is capable of capturing roughly 7,200,000 pixels. The higher the megapixel number, the more detail the camera can capture. Therefore, the megapixel count is a significant specification to look for when buying a digital camera.

Overview

The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX80 Digital Camera sports an elegant body that encases an 18.2 MP Exmor R CMOS sensor to provide high-resolution imagery. This digital camera comes with an integrated Zeiss Vario-Sonnar T* that has a 30× zoom. The BIONZ X image processor supports 1080p video recording at 60 fps and continuous shooting mode at 10 fps. You can use the 3.0-inch tilting LCD or 638k-dot OLED Tru-Finder EVF to compose the shot. With the built-in Wi-Fi with NFC connectivity, you can transfer images to smartphones as well as control the camera remotely.

Optics and Focus

The Cyber-shot DSC-HX80 comes with the Zeiss Vario-Sonnar lens that has 11 elements in 10 groups, which includes 5 aspherical elements to clear spherical distortions. A Carl Zeiss T* anti-reflective coating is applied to the lens elements to suppress ghosting and lens flare. The lens offers a variable focal length of 4.1–123mm and aperture of f/3.5–6.4. With the optimized spatial object detection algorithm, the focusing operation is quickened as well as overall accuracy is improved. The camera can take clear shots from a minimum focus distance of 5 cm on wide angle lens setting and 2.5 cm on telephoto lens setting. The 5-axis Optical SteadyShot image stabilization reduces the camera shakes in the frame while shooting handheld.

Sensor and Screen

The 18.2 MP Exmor R CMOS sensor offers vibrant picture quality and reduces noise thanks to its back-illuminated technology. The 3.0-inch touchscreen LCD provides a 921k-dot resolution view of the scene. Additionally, you can tilt the LCD 180° upwards to facilitate low-angle shooting technique or take selfies. When you press a small button on the left side of the camera, a 638k-dot OLED Tru-Finder EVF pops up from the body. You can adjust the EVF's diopter from -4 to +3 m as per your eyesight power. Both LCD and the OLED viewfinder cover 100% of the frame area.

Image and Video

The camera captures images in JPEG format with a maximum resolution of 4896×3672 dpi. This camera offers Full HD video recording at a smooth frame rate of 60 fps. The continuous shooting mode takes 10 consecutive frames in a second. Both continuous shooting and Full HD video recording are complemented by the BIONZ X image processor. There are up to 15 scene shooting modes that optimize the camera's image and video capture setting depending on the selection made.

Other Features

The Cyber-shot DSC-HX80 has a built-in flash with an effective range of up to 5.4 m with wide lens setting and 2 m with the telephoto setting. Enable the built-in Wi-Fi to transfer images to your smartphone. Additionally, the NFC function allows you to control the camera from your smartphone. A customizable function button is provided to assign 12 camera settings. You can add various PlayMemories Camera apps to bring variety in shooting modes. The self-timer gives the option to set the shutter release delay at 2, 5, or 10 seconds. This camera can take up to 390 shots on a fully charged NP-BX1 rechargeable Li-ion battery. A large hand grip is provided on the right side to ensure comfort and support for your hands.
