Megapixels:
61 MP
Megapixels:
A megapixel is one million pixels. It is commonly used to describe the resolution of digital cameras. For example, a 7.2 megapixel camera is capable of capturing roughly 7,200,000 pixels. The higher the megapixel number, the more detail the camera can capture. Therefore, the megapixel count is a significant specification to look for when buying a digital camera.

Overview

Unparalleled resolution in a compact and lightweight body

Let your expectations be upended. A class-leading1 astonishing Exmor R™ 61.0 MP full-frame sensor just like that of our acclaimed α7R V, now comes in an α7C series compact body. Don’t allow a single detail to be missed, with the go-anywhere α7CR.

Full-frame 61.0-megapixel Exmor R™ image sensor

The back-illuminated sensor’s noise reduction, gapless on-chip lenses, anti-reflection optical coating, elimination of the optical low-pass filter that is usually positioned in front of the sensor and other original technologies deliver high resolution, high sensitivity, low noise, and wide dynamic range.

BIONZ XR™ image processing engine

The latest BIONZ XR image processing engine minimizes processing latency while boosting movie and still image processing power, delivering natural gradations, realistic color, low noise, superior image quality and fast menu response.

High sensitivity and high dynamic range with low noise

Advanced imaging technology allows sensitivity settings from ISO 100 to ISO 32000 for stills and movies. Dynamic range at lower sensitivities is a wide 15 stops for smooth, realistic gradations from deep shadows to highlights.

Consistently accurate exposure and color reproduction

The advanced AI processing unit achieves accurate white balance even where the subject is in shade. Skin tones, foliage and other materials are reproduced with natural colors under almost any lighting, with lifelike gradations such as highlight roll-off in portraits.

Advanced optical 5-axis image stabilization

A high-precision image stabilization unit, advanced gyro sensors, and optimized image stabilization algorithms effectively detect and correct shake, providing a huge 7.0-step advantage for handheld shooting.

Pixel Shift Multi Shooting responds to changing conditions

Pixel Shift Multi Shooting uses the precision in-body image stabilization system to capture multiple pixel-shifted images that are later composited on a PC to achieve overwhelming resolution in a single image. 16-image composites with approximately 240.8 million pixels (19008 x 12672) can be produced from data that is equivalent to approximately 963.2 million pixels.

AI processing unit for advanced subject recognition

The AI processing unit supports recognition of human subjects using learned human form and pose data, and also recognition of non-human subjects such as animals, insects, and vehicles. This improves the performance of Real-time Recognition AF and Real-time Tracking, and makes Fast Hybrid AF subject acquisition and tracking more precise and reliable over a wider area.

Human pose estimation using a skeleton-based model

With its innovative AI processing unit, the α7CR can use subject form data to accurately recognize movement, providing a significant improvement in human eye recognition. Human pose estimation technology recognizes not just eyes, but also body and head position with high precision. This makes it possible to lock onto and track a subject facing away from the camera or with their face partly obscured by a helmet or sunglasses, for example.

Recognition of a wider range of subjects

The AI processing unit supports recognition of more subject types including the eyes of an even wider range of grazing and small animals and birds. A new combined Animal/Bird setting eliminates switching. The whole or the leading end of Cars/Trains and Airplanes, and the heads of Insects, are also recognized.

Tenacious Real-time Tracking

AI-based Real-time Tracking can be activated by specifying the subject and half-pressing the shutter button. The camera automatically tracks the subject, letting the user concentrate on framing composition. Subject recognition performance and tracking reliability have been greatly improved across a wider range of shooting situations.

Wide, high-density AF reliably captures subjects

The BIONZ XR engine and updated algorithms achieve notably improved Fast Hybrid AF performance. Up to 693 phase detection points cover approx. 79% of the image area, accurately acquiring focus even when the subject is small. The α7CR includes both phase-detection and contrast-detection AF to ensure fast, stable focus acquisition even in single AF (AF-S) mode.

AF/AE continuous shooting at up to 8 fps

Continuous shooting with AF/AE tracking is possible at up to 8 fps with the mechanical shutter, or 7 fps during silent shooting, capturing even momentary movements or expression changes in exquisite detail. The power of the BIONZ XR engine allows continuous shooting of over 1000 JPEG images16, letting you capture every vital moment.

Mobility for high-definition movie recording

The α7CR offers highly detailed 4K movie capture with 6.2K oversampling, plus the mobility required for gimbal or drone mounted shooting. It also features S-Cinetone™ for a cinematic look, Log shooting, Real-time Tracking with advanced subject recognition, Active Mode image stabilization, breathing compensation, and many more refinements.

Full-frame 4K 60/50p recording

The latest BIONZ XR processing engine and updated algorithms achieve notably improved movie image quality. In addition to focus support, the camera’s advanced AI processing unit is also used to achieve accurate white balance, even in tricky situations where the subject is in shade. Skin tones, foliage, and other materials are reproduced with consistently natural color in just about any type of lighting, and gradations such as highlight roll off in portraits are remarkably lifelike.

6.2k oversampled video, for stunning 4K imagery

4K movie recording is possible in full frame and Super 35mm formats. With full pixel readout without pixel binning, approximately 2.6 times the required data can be condensed into 4K with high resolution and detail, and minimal moire and jaggies.

S-Cinetone makes it easy to create a cinematic look

Sony’s S-Cinetone picture profile delivers more faithful color reproduction and skin tones, with natural mid-tones essential to healthy-looking skin, plus soft colors and gorgeous highlights, giving creators a cinematic look without the need for color grading.

Log recording and LUT

The α7CR features an S-Log3 gamma curve to maximize its 14+ stops of latitude. S-Gamut3 and S-Gamut3. Cine color gamut settings are also provided for further post processing control, and user-selected LUTs (Look Up Table) can be applied to preview how processed footage will look.

Active Mode image stabilization supports handheld movie shooting

Active Mode provides precision stabilization for movie shooting with advanced gyro sensors and an optimized algorithm. Camera shake is precisely detected and compensated for, with additional stabilization provided via compatible lenses in sync with the camera body.

Real-time Tracking also supports focus during movie shooting

AI-based Real-time Tracking provides a dramatic improvement in Real-time Tracking performance, automatically recognizing, tracking, and focusing on the eyes of a specified subject.
