Megapixels:
A megapixel is one million pixels. It is commonly used to describe the resolution of digital cameras. For example, a 7.2 megapixel camera is capable of capturing roughly 7,200,000 pixels. The higher the megapixel number, the more detail the camera can capture. Therefore, the megapixel count is a significant specification to look for when buying a digital camera.

Overview

With a compact form, the Sony Alpha a68 is an appealing entry-level DSLR Camera packed with features found in pricier models. The implementation of a 24.2 MP APS-C Exmor CMOS sensor and BIONZ X processor delivers detailed images at sensitivities up to ISO 25600. The a68 offers full HD 1080p video recording at 30 fps. It uses the XAVC S format at 50 Mbps to cater to high-quality filmmaking needs. The camera’s body features a top display panel and a rear control wheel that makes changing settings and previewing images easier and more intuitive.

Optics and Focus

The a68 camera incorporates Translucent Mirror Technology. It enables the mirror to direct light to the image and autofocus sensors continuously to provide constant phase and contrast detection focusing. The SteadyShot INSIDE image stabilization system, which works with any mounted lens, helps to eliminate the appearance of blurring due to camera shake. Complementing the imaging abilities of the camera is the 79-point wide coverage autofocus system. It provides excellent autofocus performance even when lighting conditions are as dim as -2 EV. With 15 centrally located cross-type points, the autofocus system is more precise and provides better subject tracking. The camera has various autofocus modes to help you capture the perfect shot. With Eye AF mode, the camera prioritizes a subject’s pupil and dedicates focusing performance for sharp portraits. The lock-on AF is ideal for moving subjects while the AF range control provides a dedicated focusing distance range for fast performance and better accuracy.

Sensor and Screen

The camera includes a 24.2 MP APS-C sized Exmor APS HD CMOS sensor and BIONZ X image processor that work together to provide high-resolution imagery with minimal noise. The sensor has a gap-less, on-chip lens design that fills the gaps between adjacent pixels to increase light gathering ability and provide edge-to-edge sharpness. It also includes a detail reproduction technology that enhances fine details for a more three-dimensional, realistic image. The sensor is capable of improving the optical qualities of any lens as it can suppress diffraction, which is common at smaller apertures. The camera includes both a high-resolution EVF and a rear tilting LCD monitor. The EVF is a 0.39-inch 1,440k-dot XGA OLED Tru-Finder that provides complete frame coverage with a high eye point, broad viewing angle, and precise color representation. The a68 has a 2.7-inch 460.8k-dot LCD with a tilting design that is useful when working from high and low angles. The screen can tilt upwards to 135° and downwards to 55°.

Image and Video

The camera features a 24.2 MP sensor and can click still images up to a maximum resolution of 6000 x 4000 pixels. It also supports full HD 1080p video recording at 24 and 30 fps. Full HD videos utilize the high-quality 50 Mbps XAVCS format while 1440 x 1080, 1280 x 720 and 640 x 480 videos use the MP4 format.

Other Features

The Sony Alpha a68 DSLR Camera (Body Only) includes a multi-interface shoe that allows you to mount a range of accessories including external flashes, video lights, and external microphones. The camera has an advanced 1200-zone evaluative exposure metering sensor to deliver consistent and accurate results. An Auto Object Framing mode automatically analyzes the scene and subject and determines an aesthetically pleasing composition.

ISO Speed: Movie: ISO100 - 12800 equivalent(1/3 EV step), AUTO ( ISO 100-12800 equivalent, selectable the lower limit and the upper limit) Still Image: ISO100 - 25600 (1/3 EV step), AUTO ( ISO 100-25600, selectable the lower limit and the upper limit)
ISO Speed:
The ISO speed setting dictates sensitivity to light. The higher the ISO speed, the more sensitive the film or digital sensor is to light. Higher ISOs have the effect of noise in an image. The actual ISO at which the noise occurs varies from camera to camera. Low ISOs are generally used for brighter lighting conditions and high ISOs are often used for low light or action shots.
