Megapixels:
A megapixel is one million pixels. It is commonly used to describe the resolution of digital cameras. For example, a 7.2 megapixel camera is capable of capturing roughly 7,200,000 pixels. The higher the megapixel number, the more detail the camera can capture. Therefore, the megapixel count is a significant specification to look for when buying a digital camera.

Overview

The Panasonic Lumix GX85 is a compact mirrorless digital camera with 4K imaging capabilities. It comes with Panasonic Lumix G Vario 12–32mm and 45–150mm zoom lenses. The camera can accept other Micro Four Thirds mount lenses as well. Along with 4K recording, the camera captures Full HD videos and 40 fps burst shots. The camera sports a 3.0-inch 1.04m-dot tilting LCD touchscreen and 2.76m-dot electronic viewfinder. The 5-axis image stabilization benefits handheld shooting techniques. Also, the Dual IS feature combines the in-camera and lens image stabilization to ensure smooth video and blur-free pictures. You can send images to smartphones or remotely control the camera via smartphone or tablet by using the built-in Wi-Fi.

Optics and Focus

The camera is provided with two zoom lenses. Firstly, the Panasonic Lumix G Vario 12–32mm lens has 8 elements in 7 groups with three aspherical elements and one extra-low dispersion element to correct spherical and chromatic aberrations. The 45–150mm zoom lens comes with 12 elements in 9 groups that include one Ultra-High Refractive Index element and two aspherical elements. Additionally, the 45–150mm lens has multi-coatings applied to individual elements to reduce ghosting and flare. Both 12–32mm and 45–150mm lenses have a stepping AF motor and MEGA optical image stabilizer. Also, these two lenses come with a 7-blade diaphragm. As for the camera, it uses the DFD autofocus technology that calculates the distance to subjects in the frame and adjusts the focus settings. Its contrast detection type focus method is ideal for both image and video capture. Use the Starlight AF feature to get accurate autofocus down to -4 EV.

Sensor and Screen

The camera comes with a 16 MP Live MOS sensor that renders HD images and videos with vivid details. Moreover, the omission of a low-pass filter increases sharpness. The sensor's dust reduction system cleans the particle build-up on it to maintain image quality. You can use the 3.0-inch 1.04m-dot LCD touchscreen to compose the shot. It can be tilted to support shooting from different angles. The 2.76m-dot electronic viewfinder offers 0.7× effective magnification and diopter adjustment from -4 to +3 m. With both EVF and LCD, you get screen coverage of 100%.

Image and Video

The Lumix GX85 can record UHD 4K videos at 30 fps and 1080p at 60 fps. This digital camera also captures still shots with a maximum resolution of 4592×3448 dpi in JPEG, MPO, and RAW. You can also 4K burst mode to take 16 MP images at 40 fps. Also, the camera allows you to take a snapshot of the 4K video at any point. There are up to 8 photo style modes 22 creative control modes in the camera.

Other Features

The camera has a built-in flash with a guide number of 4.2 m at ISO 100. You can also use an external flash by mounting it on to the hot shoe. Both built-in and mounted flash can be synchronized at 1/160th of a second. Enable the Wi-Fi connectivity to send images to smart devices or control the camera from a distance. The camera allows you to assign your most used camera functions to nine programmable buttons. This mirrorless camera uses a 1025 mAh Li-ion battery pack.

The elements are arranged in groups and may be seen in specification sheets as, for example, 6 elements in 4 groups. That configuration may have two single elements and the other four grouped in pairs.
