Overview
The newly announced M.ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 75-300mm f4.8-6.7 II is a super-telephoto zoom lens that covers a focus range equivalent to 150 to 600mm on a 35mm camera. Fully exploiting the advantages of the Micro Four Thirds System standard, this zoom lens features super-telephoto capability with a focal range up to the equivalent of 600mm on a 35mm camera, yet it is extraordinarily compact size and light weight. The super-compact design makes this lens truly mobile, so you'll be able to take it with you wherever you go, and never have to worry about missing an unexpected photo opportunity. With its built-in MSC (Movie & Still Compatible) mechanism, this lens is ideal for both SLR-quality still image photography and high-quality movie recording. The lens surface is treated with the new ZERO (Zuiko Extra-low Reflection Optical) coating, which completely eliminates ghosts and flares to ensure sharp, clear imaging even under unfavorable conditions such as backlight shooting. When the lens is mounted on an Olympus camera compliant with the Micro Four Thirds System standard (OM-D and OLYMPUS PEN series), the image stabilization system built into the camera body provides excellent image stabilization performance at any focal length. Surprisingly, despite all these improvements, this powerful new lens has been priced much more affordably than previous lenses of similar caliber. The result: more people than ever will be able to enjoy the benefits of high-performance telephoto shooting than ever before.
Super-telephoto shooting in a compact, lightweight, affordable lens
Conventional super-telephoto lenses with a focal length of 600mm (35mm equivalent) tend to be big, heavy and expensive, making high-quality telephotography inaccessible to all but professionals and a few privileged amateurs. That's all about to change with the introduction of this new lens from Olympus. Leveraging the unique advantages of the Micro Four Thirds System standard, this lens achieves super-telephoto performance equivalent to 150-600mm on a 35mm camera, while weighing in at just 423 grams, the M.ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 75-300mm f4.8-6.7. That light weight, along with a super-compact, palm-size design, means that this lens is truly mobile, so you'll be able to shoot with ease from a variety of angles, while moving around freely. And in keeping with Olympus's goal of making high-end photography an easily accessible pleasure, this lens will be available at a much lower price than the previous model. There's never been a simpler or more affordable way to expand your range of photography.
Excellent imaging performance
ZERO (Zuiko Extra-low Reflection Optical) coating. The lens surface is treated with the ZERO (Zuiko Extra-low Reflection Optical) coating, which completely eliminates ghosts and flares to ensure clear, sharp imaging even under unfavorable conditions such as backlight shooting. An offshoot of Olympus's thin film control technology and multilayer film deposition technology, the ZERO coating technology not only features high transmittance to support clear imaging performance in the lens, it is also resistant to scratches and degradation thanks to the high film strength made possible by vacuum deposition.
Sophisticated optics with multiple high-performance lens elements
The optical system includes one Super ED (Extra-low Dispersion) lens element and two ED lens elements, effectively eliminating the chromatic aberrations that tend to degrade the image quality of conventional telephoto lenses. Three HR (High Refractive index) lens elements are also used to reduce the size of the optical system, as well as to achieve excellent imaging performance across the entire zoom range.
Circular aperture diaphragm
A circular aperture diaphragm is used to ensure smooth, even background defocusing.
MSC mechanism for fast, quiet autofocusing
The MSC (Movie & Still Compatible) mechanism incorporated in the lens is an advanced optical solution developed for fast, quiet autofocusing using fewer and lighter lens elements. The focusing lens elements are driven directly by a metallic shaft and feed screw, which are engineered to submicrometric accuracies. The gear that would normally cause operating noise has been eliminated. The inner focusing mechanism used with this lens employs the MSC mechanism to enable exceptionally fast, quiet autofocusing with a compact, lightweight focusing unit combined with two lens elements. The surprisingly smooth autofocusing that lets users enjoy stress-free still image and movie shooting.
