OVERVIEW

The NIKKOR Z 24-70mm f/2.8 S from Nikon is a standard zoom lens, which covers wide-angle to portrait-length fields of view. Its f/2.8 maximum aperture makes the lens suitable for working in all different types of lighting conditions and offers increased control over your depth of field, which isolates subjects when working with selective focus. The optical design includes two extra-low dispersion elements as well as four aspherical elements. These elements help to control spherical and chromatic aberrations throughout your zoom range, improving sharpness and clarity. Nano Crystal and ARNEO Coatings, as well as a Super Integrated Coating, were used in order to suppress flare, surface reflections, and ghosting, for improved color fidelity and contrast.

A multi-focus system is used to compliment the lens's optic design, and contains two stepping motors, which help to realize accurate, fast, and quiet focus performance. Full-time manual focus override is designed to suit both video and stills needs. The lens also has a unique design, which incorporates a top OLED information panel. This panel can be used for quickly confirming aperture and focus settings. An assignable L.Fn button allows for making exposure and settings adjustments via the lens. A programmable control ring is included in the design, and can be set for intuitive adjustment for a variety of exposure and camera settings.

Other Features:

The Multi-focus system features two separate AF drive units, which are in sync, allowing them to deliver impressive, fast, and accurate focusing throughout the zoom range. The system uses stepping motors, creating an impressively quiet and smooth autofocus performance that is suited for stills, as well as video applications.

Full-time manual focus override is also possible. An internal focusing design allows for only the internal lens groups to be moved during focusing, which allows you to maintain the overall length of the lens during use. This feature promotes faster focusing speeds.

The electromagnetic aperture mechanism increases your exposure control stability, which can be beneficial when working with continuous, fast, shooting rates.

The dust and moisture resistant lens barrel helps while shooting in unpleasant weather conditions.

The rounded 9-blade diaphragm allows for a pleasant out-of-focus effect that benefits the use of shallow depth of field, as well as other selective focus techniques.

Detailed Specifications
Focusing System: Multi-Focus Stepping Motor AF System
Focusing System:
The type of focusing system used to capture a sharp image. Some simple cameras have fixed (infinity) focus. Most modern cameras have autofocus systems which determine the distance to the subject automatically. There are two main types of autofocus: active autofocus, where an infrared light (or a sonar pulse) is emitted by the camera and reflected by the subject, and passive autofocus, where the image transmitted by the lens is analysed for its sharpness by a detector inside the camera.

Lens Magnification Factor:
This is the magnifying factor of a lens. Macro lenses will often be described by their “magnification factor”. A lens with a 1:1 magnification factor produces a projected image on the sensor which is the same as the subject.

Elements / Groups: 17 Elements in 15 Groups
Elements / Groups:
The individual pieces of glass that form the overall optical construction. Most lenses have between four and eleven elements to bend the light rays to ensure a perfectly formed image appears on the light sensitive surface, such as a film or CCD. The elements are arranged in groups and may be seen in specification sheets as, for example, 6 elements in 4 groups. That configuration may have two single elements and the other four grouped in pairs.
