Overview
The Nikon D780 DSLR Camera (Body Only) features a 24.5 Megapixel, FX-Format, BSI CMOS Sensor, & is designed to capture high-resolution stills, & video-recording, thanks to the sensor's "BSI" design, which provides remarkable clarity, as well as a reduction in noise-levels. The reduced noise-levels make the Nikon D780 DSLR Camera suitable, for working in a variety of lighting conditions. The sensor also provides a sensitivty range, from ISO 100-51200, which can be further expanded, to ISO 50-204800. The D780 features a fast, continuous shooting rate, of 7fps, via the viewfinder, or 12 fps in live view. The D780 supports UHD 4K video recording, at up to 30 fps, in full-frame, or cropped areas. Full HD video-recording is supported, up to 120 fps, as well as N-Log Gamma & HLG settings, for further color-control.
Optics & Focus:
Optics:
The Nikon D780 DSLR Camera is compatible with AF-S & AF, Nikon F-mount lenses.
Focus:
The D780 DSLR Camera features a Multi-CAM 3500 II AF Sensor, which utilizes 51 phase-detection points, & is sensitive, down to -3 EV. The AF sensor features 15 cross-type points, for increased accuracy in low-contrast situations, while 11 of its focus points are sensitive, down to an aperture value of f/8. These focus points are designed to benefit the use of telephoto lenses, & teleconverters. 3D Tracking, which is part of the intelligent "Scene Recognition System", assists with maintaining focus on moving subjects, for even greater accuracy, while shooting at higher continuous-shooting speeds.
Sensor & Screen:
Sensor:
The Nikon D780 DSLR Camera features a Full-Frame, 24.5 Megapixel CMOS Sensor, which is designed to provide high-resolution images, fast readout speeds, & a highly-impressive low-light performance. The sensor features a back-illuminated (BSI) design, which works with the camera's EXPEED 6 Image Processor, to achieve remarkably-clear results, with reduced noise-levels. This makes working with the full, native-sensitivity range, of ISO 100-51200, as well as the extended sensitivity range (ISO 50-204800), suitable. When working with moving subjects, a 7 fps continuous shooting rate is supported, when using the optical viewfinder. When working in Silent Live View mode, up to 12 fps shooting is possible, in RAW or JPEG.
Screen:
The Nikon D780 DSLR Camera features a large 3.2" tiltable touchscreen LCD monitor.
Image & Video
Image:
The D780's Intelligent Scene Recognition System, With 3D Color Matrix-Metering III, uses an 180,800-pixel RGB Sensor, to analyze & evaluate each aspect, within a scene, such as; brightness, contrast, scene-colors, & subject distance, to determine an accurate white balance, & exposure setting, that is best for the scene you are shooting. The system is also designed to provide consistency, from image to image, for exposure, white balance, iTTL-flash settings, & subject-tracking AF, via the previously-gathered information.
Video:
The Nikon D780 DSLR Camera supports UHD 4K video-recording, which can be done using the full-frame area, with the option of alternatively, using a DX crop-area, in 30p, 25p, or 24p frame-rates. Full HD 1080p recording is supported at up to 120p, for slow motion playback. Video files can be saved, either to in-camera memory cards, or as uncompressed files, to an optional (separately available) external recorder, via HDMI out.
The D780 integrates the N-Log Gamma, for the capture of seemingly-flat footgae, to maximize dynamic range, & color-grading control, during post-production editing. Hybrid Log Gamma (HLG) can be used for the production of HDR content.
The D780 is able to output high-quality, 10-bit data, over HDMI, & features an Electronic VR function, for smooth handheld-shooting. Focus Peaking is available, to benefit control over manual-focus, & an included "Zebra Stripes" function, can assist with detecting over-exposed areas, within the frame. The D780 provides the option of recording your audio, via the built-in stereo microphone, or via the use of an optional (separately available) external microphone, with the use of its 3.5mm stereo-jack. Live-monitoring is also available, through the use of the headphone-jack.
Time-lapse recording is supported, with the ability to record sequential, 2.0 Megapixel stills, at 120fps.
