Overview

The AF-S NIKKOR 58mm f/1.4G is a lens that makes the most of advanced optical design technologies long cultivated by Nikon to achieve high reproduction capability of point light sources even at the maximum aperture, and natural depth of subjects utilizing smooth and beautiful bokeh characteristics. With shooting of distant night landscapes, the lens minimizes the sagittal coma flare that makes a point light source look like a bird with its wings spread to render point light sources as sharp points with no distortion or fringes across the entire frame, even at maximum aperture, for clear and crisp night landscape shots. In addition, the AF-S NIKKOR 58mm f/1.4G renders subjects impressively with beautiful bokeh that moderately changes as the distance from the sharply focused point increases for natural depth that makes near human subjects or still objects appear more three dimensional.

It’s a bargain for the features it brings to the table

Being an avid photographer, I like to take my camera with me wherever I go. I also like to collect lenses, and in fact have a 58mm f/1.2 Noct-NIKKOR sitting on the display shelf back home. So I got a hands on comparison of these two marvels of photography. I can confidently say that Nikon has managed to recreate the magic of the Noct with flowing blurry backgrounds and strikingly sharp foreground. It’s a bargain for the features it brings to the table.

I love it for its phenomenal ability

I have been waiting for this lens from so long. I love it for its phenomenal ability to completely eliminate peripheral aberrations and give out extremely smooth out-of-focus effect for the background, something that is missing on many of todays high end lenses. I also like the way it focuses on subjects, while providing you full control even when the subject is moving slowly or is completely static.

I would definitely vouch for it

I have to admit that the lens feels solid in your hands. The quality of the optical assembly is what you come to expect from Nikon - immaculate. At it sits at the top end of Nikons lens range, it has to be that good. Contrary to popular belief, the lens does not come with focusing problems, and will focus the way you want it to. There are other lenses in the market that offer similar results, but the bokeh effect of this lens is generations ahead of anything on sale in the market. I would definitely vouch for it.

Quality is flawless

This lens became my instant favourite in the camera bag the moment since I bought it. The bokeh effect that it creates has a creamy consistency that is hard to find anywhere else. It also stands out when it comes to image sharpness and the quality of the materials used in its construction. The ‘Made in Japan’ sticker confirms that the quality is flawless.

The individual pieces of glass that form the overall optical construction. Most lenses have between four and eleven elements to bend the light rays to ensure a perfectly formed image appears on the light sensitive surface, such as a film or CCD. The elements are arranged in groups and may be seen in specification sheets as, for example, 6 elements in 4 groups. That configuration may have two single elements and the other four grouped in pairs.
