40s and 50s Style Hollywood Lighting with Doug Hansgate (Nanlite)

Product #:

For years we've used large soft boxes to give us that soft wraparound light, and it does provide us with a flattering look. However, the drama of small light sources and harsh light can be even more dynamic and compelling.

Join Doug Hansgate for an intensive, full day workshop where you'll use the latest continuous lights and LED technology from Nanlite to create portraits like the old masters of Hollywood. We'll control the light like never before, balancing each light quickly and effectively from our phones and using various modifiers like cookies, flags, gobos, and scrims to produce creative looks. You'll also learn how to create all of the classical forms of portraiture with our two workshop models, as well as see how Doug edits his images (shot in-class) live for maximum effect. After all, photographers capture light... Learn to control it and there are no limits to your creative freedom.

There will be plenty of time for hands-on shooting throughout the day, so please be sure to bring your cameras and favorite portrait lenses.

Doug Hansgate, owner of AMP Studios, a successful portrait and fashion photography studio in North Tonawanda, New York, has been shooting professionally and with distinction for over 40 years. His creative approach to photography, coupled with his ability to see and capture light, permeates his impressive body of work. His love of photography, passion for art, and desire to always be the best that he can be in any field, has driven him to excel as both a photographer and artist.

Through his constant search for the very best technology, new techniques, and tools, evolving styles, and an idealistic view of the world, Doug has become a sought-after educator. Teaching at professional photography seminars throughout the United States. He teaches classes in Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom, postproduction applications, studio lighting, and studio portraiture.

As you explore Doug’s work, you will surely see—and feel—the emotion and passion that he captures in every image, whether in his dreamscape series or fashion images. His tag line “Imagery to artistry” tells it all. If an image does not exude passion and does not evoke a sense of delight, sorrow, sadness, happiness, or desire, the image lacks the ability to be a sustainable work of art.
