Overview
The Sony PXW-FX9 XDCAM 6K Full-Frame Camera System (Body Only) is designed to provide beautiful 4K HDR imagery, by oversampling its 6K full-frame sensor, & features 15+ stop dynamic range and Dual Base ISO. The PXW-FX9 allows you to capture the impossible, by featuring the world's first full-frame Electronic Variable ND and Fast Hybrid AF, in order to accurately & precisely track your subject with unprecedented speed.
Optics & Focus
Optics:
The Sony PXW-FX9 features Dual Base ISO of 800/4000, which provides optimal dynamic range for outdoor shooting, or shooting in bright lighting conditions. A secondary high-base sensitivity of ISO 4000 benefits shooting in low-light situations, such as early morning, & evening, while still maintaining high quality imagery. The secondary sensitivity of ISO 4000 is also ideal during slow-lens applications. The combination of dual base ISO with the PXW-FX9's electronic variable ND filter provides a great amount of creative control, as well as a high response to changing conditions in your shooting environment.
The PXW-FX9 features the world's first Electronic Variable ND filter, made for full-frame sensor camcorders, providing greater creative control, with smooth manual adjustments from 1/4 to 1/128 to provide perfectly exposed images, without having an impact on your depth of field throughout changes in the lighting conditions during your shoot. The ND filter also enables the use of higher density settings, with a slow shutter speed, for even more creative possibilities.
Focus:
The Sony PXW-FX9 features a fast & accurate Fast Hybrid AF system, with face detection & custom settings, which allows you to effortlessly track fast-moving subjects. The tracking enables the ability to capture your subject with pin-sharp focus, even during the use of wide lens-aperture settings, allowing you to maintain a shallow depth of field. The combination of phase-detection AF, with the Fast Hybrid AF enables accurate subject tracking with Contrast AF for high focus-accuracy.
Sensor & Screen
Sensor:
The Sony PXW-FX9 features a full-frame 6K sensor, which provides high-quality recording in DCI 4K, Ultra HD, & HD resolutions. Its powerful image processor, with debayering and down-sampling, guarantees image quality that is beyond the limits of the conventional Super35mm sensors. The sensor's back-illuminated CMOS image sensor features Sony's Exmor R© technology, for an improvement in sensitivity & noise reduction. The PXW-FX9's 6K sensor has more than 2x the surface area of a 4K Super35mm sensor, providing a wider angle of view & shallower depth of field.
Screen:
A 3.5" LCD display is featured, with approximately 2.76M dots.
Image & Video
Image:
Due to its 6K Full-Frame Exmor R© Sensor, the PXW-FX9 offers 15+ stops of dynamic range, which is beyond the standard range of human perception, allowing for even greater creative freedom in color grading & post-production. This feature allows you to focus on framing the scene the way you want to, while trusting the FX9 to capture every detail in either 4K 4:2:2 10-bit internal recording, or 16-bit RAW external recording. Colorists, in grading, can find detail & color that are beyond our normal viewing abilities, in order to produce a final image that is able to portray the mood of the scene.
The featured "S-Cinetone" function is the FX9's default look, & is specially designed to meet the requirements of today's content creators, by featuring rich/mid-range colors, a softer tonal appearance, & alluring facial tones. This function was developed with the same expertise as Sony's "VENICE" digital cinematography camera. It allows you to experience fresh & vivid content, straight out of the camera, with subjects that really stand out, while still retaining plenty of latitude in post-production.
Video:
The Sony PXW-FX9 provides you with a selection of recording formats, such as XAVC-I with 422 10-bit quality (at up to 600MB/s in 60p), & XAVC-Long for longer recording time in a smaller file size. The traditional MPEG HD codec is also available, & all files will be recorded onto XQD media cards.
Selectable frame-rates are available in both full-frame, & Super35mm, for a range that enables impressively-quick, to slow motion capture, & you are able to choose your desired frame-rate from 1fps up to 180fps. A "Quality Priority" setting is featured, for maximizing full HD, slow motion image quality with advanced, oversampling technology.
