Megapixels:
A megapixel is one million pixels. It is commonly used to describe the resolution of digital cameras. For example, a 7.2 megapixel camera is capable of capturing roughly 7,200,000 pixels. The higher the megapixel number, the more detail the camera can capture. Therefore, the megapixel count is a significant specification to look for when buying a digital camera.

Overview

The Panasonic Lumix GX8 Mirrorless Camera embodies high-resolution imaging capabilities in its compact body. Along with the camera, you get a Panasonic Lumix G Vario 12–60mm f/3.5–5.6 lens. This camera can also work with other micro four third bayonet mount lenses. The Camera has a 20.3 MP digital Live MOS sensor that offers accurate color rendition. With the Venus Engine image processor, the Panasonic Lumix GX8 can record 4K quality videos at 30 fps. The camera comes with Depth-from-Defocus AF technology and a dual image stabilization. Enable the built-in Wi-Fi to send images to smartphones as well as remotely control the camera. The provided DMW-BLC12 battery makes the camera capture up to 330 shots when fully charged.

Optics and Focus

This Panasonic camera has the Panasonic LUMIX G Vario 12¬60mm f/3.5-5.6 ASPH lens provided with it. The lens' optical design of 11 elements in 9 groups includes 3 aspherical and 1 Extra-low Dispersion element to correct chromatic and spherical aberrations. The autofocus system of the lens works with the camera's DFD system to let you achieve selective focus and shallow depth of field. With this lens, you can focus down to a minimum distance of 7.87 inches. The seven blades of the diaphragm are rounded to offer a pleasing bokeh quality. This camera incorporates Dual Image Stabilization that is a combination of the 5-axis Hybrid image stabilization technology and optical image stabilization. It works with lens' Power Image stabilization to suppress the effects of camera shakes when shooting handheld. The mechanical and electronic shutter has a maximum speed limit of 1/8000th and 1/16000th of a second.

Sensor and Screen

The Panasonic Lumix GX8 camera is fitted with 20.3 MP Live MOS sensor that offers accurate colors and clarity even when shooting in low light. The camera has a 3.0-inch touchscreen OLED screen incorporated into its design. You can tilt the screen as per your need to use the camera from a high or low angle. Also, the camera comes with a 2.36m-Dot OLED viewfinder that has 0.77× magnification and adjustable diopter of -4 to +3 m. You can tilt the OLED viewfinder upwards for taking shots from a low angle. Both OLED touchscreen and electronic viewfinder have 100% screen coverage.

Image and Video

The camera captures images with a maximum resolution of 5184×3888 dpi in JPEG, MPO, and RAW formats. The 4K video recording at 30 fps and continuous shooting mode of 10 fps is supported by the Venus Engine image processor. There are three 4K burst photo modes in the camera, which allow you to take 8 MP images at 30 fps. You can process RAW images in-camera to streamline your post-production.

Other Features

The built-in WiFi with NFC connectivity allows you to transfer images to linked smartphones. A hot shoe contact is located on the top, which enables you to mount an external flash. After installing the flash unit, you can synchronize it at 1/250th of a second. Attach an external microphone to the camera via the dedicated audio input port. The audio-in port has a wind-cut filter that reduces sound distortions during the recording. This camera has a magnesium alloy body with a splash- and dust-proof sealings near its joints, dial, and buttons.

Most lenses have between four and eleven elements to bend the light rays to ensure a perfectly formed image appears on the light sensitive surface, such as a film or CCD. The elements are arranged in groups and may be seen in specification sheets as, for example, 6 elements in 4 groups. That configuration may have two single elements and the other four grouped in pairs.
