Megapixels:
A megapixel is one million pixels. It is commonly used to describe the resolution of digital cameras. For example, a 7.2 megapixel camera is capable of capturing roughly 7,200,000 pixels. The higher the megapixel number, the more detail the camera can capture. Therefore, the megapixel count is a significant specification to look for when buying a digital camera.

OVERVIEW

Panasonic brings the kit version of the fan-favorite Lumix DC-G9 Mirrorless Micro 4/3 Camera. It is paired with the Panasonic Leica DG Vario-Elmarit 12–60mm f/2.8–4 lens. The camera is armed with a 20.3 MP Live MOS sensor that works hand-in-hand with the Venus Engine image processor to deliver UHD 4K videos and continuous burst shots up to 60 fps. You may use the 3.0-inch free-angle touchscreen LCD or the OLED viewfinder to compose scenes. The Dual I.S. 2 function utilizes the in-camera sensor shift technology and lens-based image stabilization to reduce unwanted movements when shooting handheld. The Wi-Fi with NFC, along with Bluetooth 4.2 LE, allows wireless image transfers and remote operations. On a fully charged DMW-BLF19 battery, the camera takes up to 380 shots with the rear LCD, or 360 with the electronic viewfinder.

Optics and Focus

The included Panasonic Leica DG Vario-Elmarit 12–60mm f/2.8–4 lens is the right choice for landscape and portrait photography. Other Micro Four Thirds lenses can also be used with the camera. The kit lens is constructed of 14 elements arranged in 12 groups, of which four aspherical elements and two extra-low dispersion elements ensure sharpness and color neutrality by reducing chromatic and spherical aberrations. With the rounded 9-blade diaphragm, the lens provides a circular bokeh effect in the background. The silent linear focusing motor teams up with the camera's Advanced DFD technology AF to provide accurate and consistent focusing. There are up to 225 contrast-detection AF areas in the camera's autofocus system to support subject tracking in both video and photo modes. Other focusing options include the Starlight AF for low-light shooting, and focus peaking along with Touch MF to support manual focusing. The Dual I.S.2 combines the power of the lens-based POWER O.I.S and in-camera sensor-shift image stabilization to deliver reduced camera shakes.

Sensor and Screen

The Panasonic Lumix DC-G9 sports a 20.3 MP Digital Live MOS sensor to produce high-resolution images in quick time. When it comes to scene composition, the 3.0-inch free-angle LCD allows shooting from different perspectives. Also, the touchscreen design makes it easy to navigate through the camera menus. The OLED Live View Finder offers crystal clear 3.86m-dot resolution with 0.83× magnification. You may increase the refresh rate of the EVF up to 120 fps to get a lag-free view of your shots. The top backlit LCD shows the current settings for a quick review before capturing pictures or recording videos. With the Night Mode, the camera automatically adjusts the brightness of the EVF and LCD to provide a comfortable view in low light.

Image and Video

The Lumix DC-G9 takes 20 MP images with the highest resolution of 5184×3888 pixels in JPEG or RAW. Shoot videos in UHD 4K at 60 fps in the movie mode. The camera also enables 180 fps Full HD recording for creating slow-motion effects. The 6K and 4K burst shooting modes capture 18 MP continuous shots at 30 fps and 8 MP images at 60 fps. In the High Resolution Mode, the camera combines 8 images into a single 80 MP RAW file. This Panasonic mirrorless camera includes different photo styles and creative control modes that offer variety in your photography experience.

Other Features

The built-in Wi-Fi with NFC as well as the Bluetooth 4.3 LE connectivity support wireless image transfers and remote controlling via smartphones. Also, the Bluetooth LE can be used for embedding location information into your images. The dual UHS-II SD card slots let you double the shooting time of the camera, and allow backup, relay, and allocation recording options. You can assign often-used controls to the custom function buttons for quick access. The camera has a magnesium-alloy with a die-cast frame. Also, the weather-sealing makes the Lumix DC-G9 usable in inclement climate.
