Overview

The Olympus PEN E-PL9 is a newest mirrorless digital camera that features 4K recording and a fast, responsive focus. This camera can work with Micro Four Thirds mount lenses. The latest 16 MP Live MOS sensor recognizes smallest of nuances in the scene to produce vivid images. The camera incorporates the TruePic VIII image processor that support 8.6 fps continuous photo capture and 4K recording. The high-speed contrast detection AF system along with Face-Detection AF and Eye-Priority AF ensures fast and easy focus operation in the auto mode. You can apply the included art filters to the images or videos. With the 3-axis image stabilization, the camera provides smooth movement in the recorded videos and eliminates blur when taking pictures. The included BLS-50 Li-ion battery makes the camera shoot 350 pictures and record an 80-minute video in one go.

Optics and Focus

The camera is designed for the Micro Four Thirds mount lenses. For focusing, the camera employs the high-speed contrast detection AF system. It includes 121 AF points covering the maximum imaging area. There are different focusing modes, namely single AF, continuous AF, single AF and manual AF, and AF tracking. The camera features Face Detection AF and Eye Priority AF to ensure quick and clear portrait capture. Activate the manual focus assist and focus peaking function by turning the focus ring. You can choose the color for the focus peaking.

Sensor and Screen

The Olympus PEN E-PL9 comes with a 16 MP Live MOS sensor that detects color information accurately to ensure true-to-life images. Also, the dust reduction system has a super sonic wave filter to maintain the sensor surface clean. The 3.0-inch 1037K-dot LCD allows image composition and playback. Additionally, the touchscreen function makes it easy to navigate through different menus and settings. You can tilt the LCD from -180° to +80° support high or low angle shooting. The LCD has an adjustable brightness level of ±7. Also, the LCD has different display modes such as histogram mode and level gauge.

Image and Video

The camera clicks images at a maximum resolution of 4608×3456 dpi in JPEG and RAW format. An MPO format is provided capture 3D pictures. You can switch to the movie mode to record 4K videos at 30 fps. The TruePic VIII image processor boosts the camera performance to handle the load of the 4K video recording and 8.6 fps continuous shooting. With a large collection of art filters, the camera gives you the freedom to decide the look of your pictures and videos. The E-Portrait auto mode offers smooth skin tones to improve overall image quality.

Other Features

The built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are useful for sending images to smartphones or controlling the camera from a distance. You can synchronize the camera with your smartphone GPS to tag the current geo-location to the photographs. A microphone is built into the camera, which has a wind noise reduction feature to cut breeze sounds. The camera lets you record a 30-second audio dubbing for still images. The built-in flash has a guide no. of 5.4 m at ISO 100 and 7.6 at ISO 200. You can also attach an electronic flash to the hot shoe.
