Megapixels:
A megapixel is one million pixels. It is commonly used to describe the resolution of digital cameras. For example, a 7.2 megapixel camera is capable of capturing roughly 7,200,000 pixels. The higher the megapixel number, the more detail the camera can capture. Therefore, the megapixel count is a significant specification to look for when buying a digital camera.

Overview

Experience a high-dynamic range and responsive operation in the Nikon Z6 Mirrorless Digital Camera for both video and image capture. Fitted with a 24.5 MP full-frame BSI CMOS sensor, the camera records videos in 4K at 30 fps and high-resolution stills in RAW and JPEG. The EXPEED 6 image processor handles the camera performance to ensure smooth functioning during the 12 fps burst shooting. With the N-Log gamma, you obtain flat video quality in which all the information is retained for color-grading purpose. The log gamma function is supported by zebra stripes that highlight the overexposed parts in the image. A 5-axis sensor-shift VR system is built into the Nikon Z6, which reduces camera shakes by 5 stops when a NIKKOR Z lens is attached. The tilting design of the 3.2-inch, 2.1m-dot LCD lets you frame the scene from a high or low angle with ease. You may also use the 3.6m-dot electronic viewfinder that offers a crystal-clear live view from the eye-level position. Enable the integrated Wi-Fi or Bluetooth connectivity to transfer images instantly to your smartphone. The SnapBridge support app is upgraded to 2.5 for allowing improved remote operation.

Optics and Focus

The Nikon Z6 mirrorless camera accepts Z-mount lenses. Its all-new Z-mount provides fast communication between the camera and lens for enhanced AF response and image processing speed. The mount is 17% larger in diameter than the standard ones in other full-frame cameras, which allows more light to reach the sensor to avoid vignetting when a wide-angle lens is mounted. This Nikon mirrorless camera is bundled with a NIKKOR Z 24–70mm f/4 S lens that uses aspherical and Extra-low Dispersion elements to reduce chromatic and spherical inconsistencies. These elements have nanocrystal and super integrated coatings to improve light transmission. The stepping AF motor guarantees quiet and smooth autofocus performance. You can override the autofocus any time as well as adjust the aperture and exposure compensation with the programmable control ring. The 273-point phase-detection AF system pins the focus on the object even if it moves to the edges of the frame. With the Hybrid AF, the camera uses both phase and contrast detection methods to maintain focus on the object in the video. The 5-axis sensor-shift VR image stabilization delivers a 5-stop reduction in camera shakes for Z-mount lenses. If you have used a NIKKOR F-mount lens via the included Nikon FTZ adapter, the image stabilization limits the camera shakes by 3 stops.

Sensor and Screen

The 24.5 MP full-frame BSI CMOS sensor powers the imaging capabilities of the Nikon Z6. It offers fast readouts, high low-light sensitivity, and responsive focus. Additionally, the sensor has a back-illuminated design that decreases image noise at an ISO limit of up to 51200. The camera's 3.2-inch, 2.1m-dot LCD can be viewed when taking low or high angle shots thanks to its tilting design. Also, the touchscreen functionality of the monitor allows easy navigation through various menus. The 3.6m-dot electronic viewfinder also catches up to the LCD in terms of crystal-clear live monitoring. It houses aspherical elements that reduce distortions at the edges to give a true-to-eye view. The fluorine coat on the external EVF element makes it easy to clean fingerprints, dust, and moisture off the surface.

Image and Video

The Nikon Z6 captures videos in 4K quality at a frame rate of 30 fps. A 1080 video recording options is also included for video bloggers or YouTubers. You can set the frame rate up to 120 fps for producing slow-motion videos in Full HD. The camera offers a maximum resolution of 6000×4000 pixels to the JPEG or RAW images. The Nikon Z6 has the EXPEED 6 image processor that supports the 12 fps RAW burst shooting. With the 10-bit N-log gamma, the camera shoots videos in a 12-stop dynamic range to allow application of LUTs during the color grading process. The zebra function shows the overexposed parts in the image for assisting the exposure metering when shooting log gamma. Shoot 4K time-lapse sequences with the interval timer that takes up to 9999 high-resolution stills.

Other Features

This Nikon mirrorless camera links to your smartphone via the built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth for transferring images. For Wi-Fi, the camera presents you with 5 GHz and 2.4 GHz bandwidth options. The SnapBrigde 2.5 support allows you to control exposure, white balance, and other settings from your smartphone. The camera comfortably fits into your hand thanks to its lightweight and ergonomic body made of durable magnesium alloy. Furthermore, the gaps and buttons are sealed to stop dust and moisture from entering inside. This camera is powered by an EN-EL15b Li-ion battery pack.
